Help me get this DOS game running please?

I'm totally clueless as to how to get this DOS game running. The game is Wing Commander: Privateer and I'm trying to get it running on my Win98SE rig.

I tried going to Origin/EA (the maker of the game)'s website and looking up at their Customer Online Support but some stupid error message comes up:

<< Error Diagnostic Information
Template file not found.

HTTP/1.0 404 Object Not Found
Note: If you wish to use an absolute template path (e.g. TEMPLATE="/mypath/index.cfm") with CFINCLUDE then you must create a mapping for the path using the ColdFusion Administrator.

Using relative paths (e.g. TEMPLATE="index.cfm" or TEMPLATE="../index.cfm") does not require the creation of any special mappings. It is therefore recommended that you use relative paths with CFINCLUDE whenever possible.

The error occurred while processing an element with a general identifier of (CFINCLUDE), occupying document position (244:39) to (244:98).

My problem is, I cannot run the game through Windows. The game makes a DOS shortcut. I double clicked it and Windows quits, I'm booted into DOS. In the command prompt, it says my Mouse Driver, CD-Rom drive and some other driver has finished loading. The game starts to load but then freezes.

1 time, I booted into DOS by rebooting the computer, pressing F7 or whatever (to bring up the Boot Menu). I booted directly into DOS. Executed "priv.exe" through there. It asked me some question (I forgot what the question was) but I pressed "Y". The game (presumably) starts to load but it just freezes there as well.

Please help me on how to get this game running! Thanks in advance. 🙂

Old DOS games often had seperate setup programs where you could specify the sound card and video card you had. You might want to drop down to basic VGA and no sound if possible, then if it works try different options. Another (BIG) headache of the DOS era was extended, expanded, lower, upper, etc memory - and each game/application having different requirements. But usually games would complain about memory requirements instead of just freezing.

BTW, this probably is not a hardware issue.
