Help me get some fans

Antec LifeStyle SONATA II Piano Black Computer Case

That is what I bought. I am wondering what extra fans I need. I have no clue, what size etc. I don't need especially quiet

my other thread was dead, and it was basically hijacked. no talk about fans except your pm. I still know nothing about what I need

can anyone help me out? I have no idea what fits, or how many etc.

edit: ok i opened up the box and grabbed the users manual.

the case comes with a 120mm fan in the back, pushing air out.

it supports a 120mm in front blowing in.

also a 92mm and 80mm fan that fit in the ACAG duct thing inside. you can not have one without the other I believe it says.

It "recommends" not using any extra fans than it provides due to added noise, but this is not a big problem for me. I do not know what kind of fans to get, brandwise. I believe they should be 3 pin connectors?

Erm. Sounds like you haven't even installed your system in this case yet. How do you know you need additional fans?

I don't know. But I don't want to put it together and then have it overheat and cause problems. I'm assuming someone has the same case and can recommend if I should add fans or not. only 1 fan seems a little low. my current case which I did not build myself has I think 5

I'm generally of the opinion that a case with that many fans is probably badly-designed. My recommendation would be to try your stock Sonata, see what your temps are and then install another fan only if necessary.

I'm running an overclocked Opteron 165 in a Sonata I (which means I don't have the duct thingie...it probably wouldn't fit anyway since I have a Scythe Ninja HSF). I only have 2 case fans: a 37cfm 120mm orange Nexus on the rear and the 120mm fan in my PSU. I attached the Sonata's original case fan to my Ninja HSF. CPU temps top out at around 50C running 2 instances of prime. Due to the Ninja's design, the CPU fan doesn't cool any of the components surrounding the CPU like would happen if I had, say, the Zalman 7700 or XP-90. So my PWMIC runs 45-55C instead of 35-45C but that's well within the thermal limits.

ok well here is my setup. do NOT plan on overclocking at all

EPoX EP-9NPA+Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard - $105

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Dual Core Processor - $322

eVGA Geforce 7800GT 256-P2-N517-AX Video Card - $309

CORSAIR ValueSelect 1GB 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) - $81 x2

Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 250GB 3.5" Serial ATA150 Hard Drive - OEM - $102.50

Antec LifeStyle SONATA II Piano Black Computer Case - $91.99

Would you recommend even using the duct thing? and if so, would it be smarter to put fans in it, or one in the front, if I did decide to add. I'm thinking it would be best if I added fans, and kept the back fan set at low like it suggests

I don't see anything in your proposed setup that would necessitate additional fans. The main difference is your PSU has an 80mm exhaust fan while my aftermarket PSU has a 120mm fan. If the fans were to ever rev up, mine would probably exhaust more air but at your power level (150-180W) it'll remain on low speed so there shouldn't be much difference between the two.

I can't offer any recommendations for or against the duct thing since I don't have one. All I can say is that it might not fit if you have a very large CPU heatsink. You'll just have to try it and see.

I do recommend you buy a decent CPU HSF, though. Scythe Ninja, Thermalright HR-01 and XP-90c would be my top choices. Zalman 7700Cu and Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro would be decent alternatives.

Ok I think I have decided to atleast get another 120mm for the front. I believe it should be a 4 pin connector, can anyone confirm that? any recommendations? Don't need anything great, but not a piece of junk either

Can someone suggest a fan for me? 120mm. I guess something fairly quiet would be good, doesnt have to have a crazy air flow since sounds like the 1 fan in back is good enough. I rather be safe than sorry
