ok this is a promblem combo slow windows booting and a bunch of c's following the sound blaster drivers then long pause loading windows I want to remove these c's as nothing follows them and how can i speed up windows loging or booting thanks

WIN98se? Do you have any NIC's installed? NIC's usually cause the bootup time to take a little longer while it intializes the card with your network/service from what I have read. I just built a new system. Before I put in my NIC's, the bootup time was blazing fast. I don't think there is much you can do if you have NIC's installed and bootup time in WIN98se if that is what you have. As for the C:\, I see those as well. I thought there was a place in msconfig where you could manage that, but I am not real sure about that. Hopefully someone else can answer that one. Hope I have offered some advice. Good Luck! 😀

Those C:\ 's are caused by programs starting in the Autoexec.bat and/or config.sys files. Some examples include: himem.sys, cd-rom drivers, antivirus startup scans, etc.

You can edit the files manually using notepad, and I don't believe that there are any files in there that you absolutely need (except himem.sys)

You dont need them at all if your running Win98 or later and not using any DOS programs.

Go into msconfig and unselect config.sys & autoexec.bat
