Do you have a string trimmer that accepts attachments? If so, look up 'brush cutter' attachments that work with it. Typically, it's a metal disc with 3 or more blades. You can use that to clear it back and try to get to the roots.

A lazy approach is to use an herbicide to clear it back. A few days later, hit it again....then start clearing it. Vinegar by the gallon is pretty cheap.

Just start ripping it out. Eventually you will tame it.

It looks like periwinkle to me. Roundup might help, but not really needed. It isn't very deep-rooted. A few rounds with a pitchfork or a rototiller and you should win.

is it a good idea to use chemicals not meant for such use on the soil?
I don't know what's in paint thinner but the internet is full of people saying they had to dig up and replace soil (i.e. decontaminate) because workers threw paint thinner in their garden.

My neighbor changes his own oil and other vehicle fluids. He uses the waste fluids on various weeds around his house. Yes, he should not be using old oil for this, but he has one of the best lawns on the block. Don't forget, oil originally came from the ground - you are just putting it back.

Better solution: Take some pictures, put an ad on Facebook for "vinca minor for sale." Put a reasonable price down, along with, "must take all, you remove."

Someone will do the work for you AND pay you.
