Help me get out of Jury Duty. . .

Just got my jury summons the other day. I don't want to do it and frankly it would be a big waste of my time. $10 a day to miss school and work, for two weeks!! Not worth it to me. I'm not sure how lenient they are. Actually, people in my county have said that they are pretty strict about your attendance. So in that case, how can I purposely get excused? Should I fake mental illness, proclaim myself a communist, or what? I need suggestions. . .

Faking your way out of jury duty is ILLEGAL. As you are aware, we do not tolerate threads promoting illegal activity. On this decision, we are the Judge and Jury and we have spoken.

<< Can't you somehow say you're biased towards the case at hand? I'm sure that'll let you off. :) >>

Just tell them that you read about "what happened" in the newspaper and you've looked forward to canning that guys ass, and NOTHING is going to change your mind.

Well on one ocassion I didnt even respond to the mail. They never bothered calling me.

Again they decided to summon me again. I simply checked on the letter that I was not a citizen of the US and they have not contacted me since then :)

No i am not an illegal resident. Actually my parents came to the us in 1980 and they took their citizenship exam before I was 18. Am I naturalized? my parents say that I am but I am getting mixed responses.

In all seriousness, though, it's part of your duty as a citizen. Nobody wants to do it, but doing so guarantees the trial process will be around if YOU ever need it.

School might be a legitimate reason to be excused, missing that much class could seriously set you back in a degree program. Work is not a valid reason.

School simply allows you to have it postponed something like 3 months.

I've got the answer. Since I'm the only person it seems that actually wants to be on a jury and I'm in Orlando..close to Daytona I will be more than happy to take your place.

You're not the only one, I would LOVE to do jury duty. My employer will pay 100% of my wages while I'm gone, so I can get $10 a day + my full pay to skip work.

:)

Sadly, though, I have yet to be summoned.

Actually Viper I believe you have to pick one or the other. You cant have your employer and the goverment pay you.

I had a coworker serve for 2 weeks. Our company paid her so the gov. would not. They did buy her lunch and give her a parking space. :D

Maybe I'll put the notice on ebay and everyone can fight over it.

I know that it's my job as a citizen. Don't get me wrong, I'm very interested in the process and I wouldn't mind doing it at another time in my life, but I just have too much stuff going on right now.

While I see your point I disagree. You arn't doing it for the moeny but for the sense of justice. If all the educated people got out of jury duty what kind of verdicts would get handed out? In fact it is a problem in this country with people getting out of their civil duties.

Now wait a minute. I offer to take it off your hands now you want me to pay for it? And on top of that you expect me to bid on it? What a way to treat a lady who offers to help you out. LOL

You're right. Maybe I can get the defendent to chip in and make it worth my while.

You know, I just think it's a nuisance that they can spring this kind of thing on you at any random time. Now if they would be willing to schedule something with me, I'd be very cooperative. Say between end of august and october, when I'm out of school. But I cannot drop everything and become secluded in some cheap motel for two weeks. No way!

Who says you'll get sequestered? You could show up on the first day & get dismissed because they don't need you.

I would love to do jury duty sometime in my lifetime too - when I have easy access to the courthouse and am out of school.
