help me get my 8800GS running

I just got an 8800GS to take over the duties from my integrated graphics of my HTPC...

I uninstalled the ATI drivers, ran Guru3D's driversweeper, installed the 175.19s... and now when I boot into windows I just get a blank screen. Everything is peachy until right after the windows loading bar disappears off the screen.

Safe mode works fine.

Running Vista X64.

Sounds to me like windows still wants to use the integrated graphics...

Did you disable the IG using BIOS? or Windows itself?

I'm fairly sure i disabled them in the BIOS, although the settings in my BIOS are pretty vague.

I selected the precedence of PCIE > INT > PCI

and

I turned Integrated from UMA to disabled.

Well, I suppose you could move the display cable back over to the IG and see if it gets a signal then; despite the BIOS changes. I'm think that perhaps you'll have to disable it in device manager.

There isn't anything that says it's in my device manager, but I'll give your suggestion a go.

Well... that didn't seem to work. I was able to disable the onboard but the same thing happens now :\ Any other suggestions?

i'm pretty sure it does have something to do with not being able to completely disable the device... this is pissing me off!

Wait, so you were able to get the screen to display on while the display was connected to the IG?

Also what motherboard is this?

Screen doesn't display when I have the integrated disabled in the BIOS. I went ahead and enabled it in the BIOS and then disabled it in the device manager...

It's a Foxconn A690GM2MA-8KRS2H

I'm gonna try the card in my desktop tomorrow... I don't know what it tells me if it works in the desktop though.

Could my PSU be too weak to power it? I mean, could it get into safe mode but not regular windows, or would that eliminate the PSU idea?

so... I left my computer running after it got to the point where the screen was blank... and after about 5 minutes it bluescreens then restarts. Driver issues? Conflicts? Power Supply? Bad card?

Once again, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Well, nvlddmkm is a nvidia driver issue, but I thought it was fixed in the later releases. Hmmm.

In all honesty, I think the last solution would be to RMA the 8800GS and either go back to IG or pickup an ATI card.

i can try it in my desktop this weekend.. just a PITA since my desktop is tucked behind my desk.

Well I went ahead and installed the card in my desktop... works fine. I'm at a loss right now to be honest... I'm gonna try my 8600GT in my HTPC and see if it handles it. If it does, looks like I'll be swapping my PSUs of my HTPC and Desktop

The 8600GT does NOT work in my HTPC... there's GOT to be some sort of driver conflict which arises since safemode works fine with the add-in card. I just don't know how to isolate it. Seriously, any help/suggestions would be appreciated. Reformat with that card in the system from the get-go and the onboard disabled?

You have a fresh format and you disabled onboard video? You might want to run safe mode if you didn't and manually delete registry of your ATI card values in your registry. It shoud be under Local Machine-->system--->currentcontrolset--->control--->video. I don't trust 3rd party automatic driver uninstallers. Sometimes they screw things up more than it fixes. You should have made restore point before doing all this. Especially when you hange registry which driversweeper does. I've had drivercleaner mess up my system once so never again.

Did you look at your device manager to make sure onboard video isn't there. making sure it's not enabled for any reason. It looks like a motherboard problem or a registry. Perhaps there's a switch on the board itself to disable onboard video?

I'm 100% it has nothing to do with your power supply. Swapping PS isn't going to solve your onboard video conflicting problem.

I have NOT tried a fresh format yet. That was the next in line for solutions. I'll check out the registry to see if I can dig up anything that's left and screwing my computer up. If that fails, I'll give the reformat a whirl. Hopefully I'll have her up and running by tomorrow night-ish...

Preference doesn't mean your onboard video is disabled. It just use PCI-E first than onboard and lastly PCI.

I think UMA has something to do with your hard drive. I don't think that's onboard video.

I looked at your motherboard manual but it doesn't tell you anything about onboard video.

I suspect it's under integrated Peripherals > onboard devices.

Just a thought but are you using the latest BIOS? Perhaps an issue was fixed.
