I just got my new comp up and running and decided to OC.

I got it to boot at 3.0ghz, but when its about to get to the Windows loading screen, the screen goes out and just sits there. Or it will just reboot.

my settings are.

htt=333
multi=9x
hypertransport=3x333=999
memory=3:4,150. DDR500.
vcore=1.45v
vdimm=2.80

specs are dfi ultra d, opty 165, gskill hz ddr500, ac freezer pro 64

bump the vcore to 1.475, although you may need 1.5v to be Prime stable.

Seems you got a nice one. 2.9ghz is still an awesome overclock though it'd be nice to hit the big 3.0. Just be prepared to accept that your cpu just won't go higher and remain stable no matter what you do.

So basically you want 3ghz just so that you can "join the club" and make your e-penis bigger :p

As others have said, don't be afraid to put a little more voltage into it, just don't go above 1.5v (which means you can give it 1.5, just don't go over that).

lol epenis.

Thanks for the suggestion guys, i havent tried it yet but i will soon.

I did set the vcore to 1.475, but it didnt help and was afraid of 1.5

But doesnt the dfi ultra d overvolt the vcore? if so by how much? Also what about the ldt and ram volts?

I set ram at 2.8 and i'm not sure if that made a difference. The difficulty of even getting to 3ghz already tells me that i wont be running this at 3ghz 24/7. IN the end probably 2.8, but i need to see 3ghz first.

EDIT: AC freezer pro 64 is the heatsink i have.

yes the ultra-d does overvolt.

i think it overvolts around 0.03-0.05 volts.

so if you set it to 1.5 then it's really around 1.55

I'll try to get a screenshot of the dram settings I'm using so you can see if they work for you. They got me to 2.8GHz@1.4V Prime stable and 3.05GHz@1.55V dual SuperPi stable.

thanks for the help guys.

Elfear i believe i have the same stepping as you and even though i have the same stepping and i set the same settings i may not get the same results, but it would still help.

so whenever you get the screenshot up, thanks.

more information that might help is that my timings i just left on auto, and i'm not sure if bios version makes any difference. Is there a bios i should be using?

All the settings in the ram configuration i'm so confused about. I only understand the ram timings and thats about it. Whats all the other stuff? most of it i left on auto. Does this affect my overclock?

If your chip is freezing at the load Windows screen at 3 GHz, then chances are you won't be totally stable at 2.8/2.9 GHz either (certainly not longterm Prime stable).

Because most 90nm Opterons can boot above 2.75 GHz, but only good ones are actually stable at those speeds.
