Hi, I lost Master Boot Record of my hard disk due to some virus attack. I want to recover my data from that Anybody help me out. thanks in advance.😕

First remove the hard drive from the computer! Leave it out until you get a viable solution. If you boot to windows in any way it has a tendancy to want to overright data, even if nothing is done to write a file.

Recovering the MBR is not hard, but that primarily also depends on your OS. So, which OS is it? Win2k and Winxp cd's come with a utility to try and restore your mbr, I believe it is one of the command line utilities. Linux install CD's also come with the option of booting just a basic kernel from the cd and the resintall your MBR by mounting your hard drive.
All depends on which OS.

I am using Win-98 . But I thought that this problem is created because of virus which gets activated by pressing Alt+Ctrl+Del. Actually, i was surfing web and suddenly computer hangs so I used alt+ctrl+del for end task but it's not showing that . So, I restrted machine and problem arrived.

Try booting from a DOS start disk, and typing fdisk \mbr pr fdisk /mbr. I can't remember which one. That should recover the MBR, but will not protect anything if data was deleted, or if the virus is still active (and how do you get a virus these days :confused😉.

Try to get a hold of some antivirus disk/ CD and boot off of that. Run a virus scan prior to fixing your mbr. At least Norton CD can check the disk... I am sure other ones can too. This to make sure the virus does not attack immediately again after you fix your mbr.

i had the same problem. the master boot record was somehow hosed on my computer as well. go here and download the iso image. there's a program on there that can help restore the mbr of your computer. it worked in my case. the cd contains a host of other data recovery tools as well. don't give up hope!

I want to ask Dafinn one question .If partitions were already deleted then how can an antivirus do it's work? I don't know whether it is possible or not but just eager to know about that.
Thanks in advance.

just a reminder, once you're able to boot again, make sure you backup all your data off your hard drive.

by the way, DaFinn your sig is hilarious! 😀
