I have Windows XP pro installed on a 2.8Ghz C2d with 4GB of Ram and a 400GB 7200.10 Seagate, a While ago I used Winpatrol to remove some stuff from startup and Now I'm stuck with this 5 minute long startup process, I kid you not, it takes about 5 minutes to log in to windows (just the blue Screen, not the actual boot from POST).

What can I do to fix this?
This is an issue with Windows and not with the Hard drive ( I ran all the tests on this HDD and tried a clean install and that booted in less than 2 minutes) .

Thanks

You need to install BootVis, Google it for a download as Microsoft claims it doesn't help XP (it does, trust me).

It's an awesome tool that analyzes your boot process, shows you graphs on where stuff is catching, etc.

Sounds like you either have a driver hanging, or your PC is trying to connect to something over a network and not finding it.

5 minutes? your OS is wasted. I wouldn't even bother starting to list the amount of things that are probably wrong with it...

Back up your important data and reformat. Do a clean fresh install of XP SP2. It will take a tiny fraction of the amount of time you would probably have to spend fixing it (and it will do a much better job, as chances are you wouldn't get everything).

Boot from your XP CD, choose to install onto the same partition that XP is already installed into, and it should give you the option of doing a repair install.
