Help me fix my AIM.....

So ever since I moved back to campus my AIM just doesnt quite work right. It randomly times out, signs me on, off, on, off til it tells me I've signed in too fast and locks me out for 30 minutes. It's annoying as fvck and I cant seem to figure out how to fix it. Any thoughts(serious or otherwise) that I can do to fix this? Do I need to change the port AIM connects through or what?

Any help would be appreciated!

FYI- My Mozilla, and all other internet functions work just fine, some slowdown during the day but nothing bad. I can play any game online (CS:S, DOD:S, BF2 and my ping is beautiful. Usually <25 with no lagging, hitching or timing out.

There are lots of variables man.. how about some technical details about the network setup, etc.

Straight 100Mb/s ethernet on a CAT5 from the wall to my mobo. Nforce drivers for the connection. Connection is controlled by the university by having us log in through a secure connection that is encrypted and quick scans our systems for common viruses.

I was thinking perhaps the port that AIM runs on, 5190 is blocked or something.

GAIM has been booting me as well.

Then I suggest talking to the system admins and see what they have to say. Are other people in your dorm able to connect to AIM? There may be other ways to connect to the server as well, by specifying different ports, but I've never had to do that so I have no idea if it would work.

90% of the system admins here on campus make Comcast customer service reps look like geniuses. They'll probably see my prebuilt system and shat themselves. Then tell me to reset my modem. Oh wait i have a direct wall connection i cant reset my 'modem' Retards.

My sister has been having problems as well. I think it might be our apartment. She's on a Acer 1.7Ghz Dothan lappie. She's using wireless.(we can either use wireless or wired in) and she started having problems today as well. It's almost like AIM is losing packets somewhere. Like something is blocking them. It's odd.

I may reinstall my nforce ethernet drivers this weekend but I'll have to head home and pick up the disc since I forgot it on accident.

I'm sure the drivers are online somewhere.

That statement makes you seem about on par for a comcast CS rep.

Could the the school network restricting IM access, giving access through thoes ports absolute minimum priority in the routing tables. Could be a problem with the AIM network.
Most likely it's the school network seeing as how that is the only variable that has changed.

Well it wouldnt be the first time my drivers went to crap on me. So I at least consider all my options. I wouldnt be surprised if it was something to do with the school. I know they are cracking down on illegal filesharing and whatnot so it might be something to do with that. It's just frustrating for everything else to be speedy and AIM to be taking a big sh!t

So go to nvidia's site or hit up a techie driver site and reinstall your drivers. It will take you all of 5 minutes.
