For most of my life, I've hated techno with a passion. But its beginning to grow on me (it had to - with my brother pretending to be a DJ in the room next door). I've got all the jungle I could ever want and more, but its not the most pleasing to me right now. I very much like the style of groups like Propellorheads, and Prodigy - but both are starting to sound a little too old to me. I especially like songs that have a little bit of vocals in them (not too much of course). What groups should I look into?

Bahh, first off you don't want actual techno, you want trance.

Or at least is the case with 95% of new electronica listeners.... As ill said, DigitallyImported is the absolute best place to pick up songs you like. Just check their playlist when you hear something you like, and hit up Napster.. err, uhh cdnow.com

As far as streams go Repruhzent is also a good stream. As far as artists go it depends on your tastes, you seem to be the prodigy/chemical brothers/crystal method kinda guy so i guess i'd suggest some squarepusher or aphex twin. Personnally i like more house/speed garage/trance so house wise, mabye some armand van helden, cassius, dimitri from paris, moloko, modjo, sebastien leger, ian pooley, bob sinclair, carl cox, thomas bangalter among others. Trance wise try some say... scan,dj bobo, dj dado, dolphins mind, red5!, um... god.. my brains hurting now... that'll get ya started tho... just listen to the streams... you'll find some good stuff...

Enigma, Enya or Robert Miles. Take a look especially at their dance remixes!

Also, take a look at site below, it has good information and videos of of quite a few eurodance artists:

Some suggestions...

Daft Punk
Leftfield
Bentley Rhythm Ace
DJ Shadow

The latter two are a bit different... BRA is similar to Propellerheads, but still seemingly "light" in their own way. DJ Shadow makes use of a lot of rap-like beats minus the lyrics; it's actually quite interesting to hear. I like it.

Another artist you may wanna check out is Amon Tobin. Very interesting mix of everything. Seriously, check him out.

what the hell?

THAT IS NOT TECHNO. ITS TRANCE.

there is a HUGE difference between the two.

alot of what you guys are calling techno is no where near it. trance, house and trip hop, even old skool london hardcore.
if you must generalilze then call it electronic music.

for really real techno then try to look for: Adam Beyer (sweedish techno), or richie hawtin.

share what you know, learn what you dont.
*kat. <-- loves minimal techno

Ok.. let's be a little bit more specific. Asking for good techno is like asking for good rock or classical. There are so many genres.

So to be specifc... I'm really getting nasty endorphin (sp?) highs off of some dude named Edgey. It's more of a jungle/drum and bass techno. You can find his stuff off mp3.com.
Yup.. It's free.

If you're wanting to get into breakbeat, some good cds are Breakbeat Era (produced by Roni Size) or Breakbeat Massive. Check out towerrecords.com. They might still have some left.

My two cents

cmon ya dink... its already been stated above that we were assuming he meant electronic music.. im sure most of these people know the difference, but when a new person to the music asks for techno, 99% of the time they r really meaning to aks for trance or house..

Well, kat, the original poster said techno in the sense of "electronic music" as a whole. That's where the problem lies. I agree with Demosthenes, when he says that Naughtyus is actually looking for good trance by his description. I'd add more but yakko and b0red pretty much nailed down my favorite artists.

All I have to say is Orbital's new album is due out in april, with a DVD version following in may!!!!!!!

Oh, and LOL @ LordMaul!

EDIT: CoolTechie beat me too it.

Go to the "LOVE PARADE" in Berlin (Germany) like I did.
1.5 million people dancing on the street to techno music
is just amazing. Although I actually don't like techno.
