I'm looking for some new stuff to read. Mainly in the "cyberpunk/techie" genres. I already have a wishlist on amazon.com with some gibson, stephenson, and a couple of hawking books. If you have read any really good books in this genre, let me know. Just list some of your favorites. :)

this is what i have so far.

Edit: The purpose of the wishlist is to keep track of what books I am interested in picking up. I don't expect ANYONE to buy any, I'm not a beggar like that. :)

I recently read "Snow Crash" and "Signal to Noise"... both are excellent books. I can't think of the authors off hand...

"The Elegant Universe" by Brian Greene is an interesting read on string theory.

Isaac Asimov - always fun to read if you like the science stuff
Claude Shannon - Claude Shannon: Reluctant Father of the Digital Age (can be found on the net).
Roger Penrose - Anything
Carl Sagan - The Demon-Haunted World : Science As a Candle in the Dark, Cosmos, The Dragons of Eden : Speculations on the Evolution of Human Intelligence, Pale Blue Dot : A Vision of the Human Future in Space, lots of other stuff.
Thomas Kuhn - Structure of Scientific Revolutions

This is what I have read, but I am sure there is plenty more stuff like this out there.

I was gonna say Cryptonomicon, but obviously you're off to a pretty good start. I still haven't finished my copy, but I think I'll get started again soon.

1 more post! ;)

2 more. :) You won't get the member upgrade until 2 more. :)

Cryptonomicon was pretty good. I never really got into it though.

I still prefer my George R. R. martin over everything.

What's wrong with Gibson? He's not the same caliper as Stephenson, but he writes good books, none the less.

The Soul of a New Machine by Tracey Kidder, it's rather old but gives a great insight on early computer developement and the business world.

The Moon is a Harsh Mistress by Robert Heinlein, not punk but good old hard science fiction with a speculation on computer awareness.

Actually anything by Heinlein is worth reading.
