Help me find my Favorites

One of my son's friends was surfing on my computer this past weekend and the next time I used the system my favorites were gone in IE. I tried to just add them again but I got an error that said this folder already exists each time I tried to add a folder. They all show up in Mozilla as IE imported bookmarks.

My documents and settings folder does not contain any Favorites folders anywhere (set to show hidden file and folders).
System restore to last week did not fix the problem.

Any ideas about what he did and how to fix it?

Thanks in advance

well if its not in the c:\documents and settings\user folder then what i would do is just try to do a search on the hard drive and see if you can find the folder. if you cant find the folder, try doing a search for the title of one of the favorites links and see where on your computer that file is.

Thanks for the reply.

I did a search on C: for "favorites" and it came up empty. I didn't search for the links though I will try that.

In regedit, look in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\Favorites
This key holds the path to your Favorites folder. Make sure that directory exists and you have rights to create/edit it. Try manually creating it if it doesn't exist or you can change this path if you want.
