Help me find a web hosting service

Please feel free to help me out...

I've been delegated the task of finding a new web hosting service for a non-profit organization. We're currently with Verio (http://www.verio.net/) and would like to move to a provider that can give us a dedicated box (one for site, one for e-mail).

Requirements:
- 20 GB web storage
- 5 GB e-mail storage
- 70 GB/month bandwidth
- 200 POP3 e-mail addresses
- ability to cap each e-mail account's storage
- automatic reporting of storage amounts, e-mail accounts
- monitor e-mail accounts and report to user at set threshold (ex. 70% full; >1 month old)
- dedicated e-mail box or dedicated box for organization
- UNIX e-mail server if dedicated
- reliable, dedicated, robust, stable

These are the requirements given to me by our webmaster. Any help?

www.fdcservers.net

just get one of their virtual dedicated servers, or one of their dedicated servers.. you can get them as low as $100/month for unlimited b/w. my site and a bunch others are hosted on there.

I would highly advice against fdc servers. Their inbound bandwidth is fine but outgoing is overloaded. They are very cheap, but don't expect awesome uptime.

eh.. they've gotten a lot better. it's a hit or miss with fdcservers. you either get put on a congested line/lan or you don't. hardware is either really stable or you end up going through loops of tech support swapping stuff out. i haven't heard anything bad about their VDS though, that's why i suggested him to give them a try, or go to www.rackforce.com and get a VDS there. unlimited bandwidth on either and should be more than enough for what 70GB/month.

Exactly, and I wouldn't recommend a company thats either a hit or miss.

pfffft! i'm happy with them now. go give rackforce.com a try or okisys.net then. i haven't heard anything bad about rackforce. haven't heard anything about okisys at all, but they're somewhat cheap for dedicated boxes.

obligatory plug for my brother-in-law's employer, datapipe.com 😉

most of their operations consist of dedicated servers. don't know anything about their pricing or reputation, but I can at least confirm that they have cool employees 😛

As others have stated WebHostingTalk.com is your friend.

Here are a few dedicated web host providers to consider:
Burst/Nocster (they suck that's my personal experience and opinion)

ServerMatrix.com (the best budget dedicated web host provider)

AngelNetworkz.net (reseller of Managed.com servers, do a SEARCH for Managed.com old and newer threads). You may want to contact their sales team and ask if their Buy 1 - Get 1 FREE sale is still available? Some of the deals are incredible.

Make life easier and get a control panel such as H Sphere, DirectAdmin, Plesk 7, Ensim, or cPanel with Fantastico.

Sorry for the delay in responding. Our current budget is $500/month.

I would check out the WHT dedicated offers then research the providers here.

You should also consider a VPS which seems like a good solution for your needs.

Here are some reviews, I would highly recommend ServINT.net

$0 setup
$49/mo
10GB disk space
200GB per month bandwidth
FREE WHM/cPanel or Plesk 7 control panel

Look at the hardware!
SuperMicro Dual Xeon 3.06 Ghz
8 GB Registered ECC DDR RAM
Multiple 73GB U320 15,000rpm SCSI drives in Hardware RAID 5
Hot-Spare drives, zero downtime during failure
Hot-Swap drives and fans, replaceable on the fly
Redundant Hot-Swap power supplies
Dual 10/100/1000 Network Interfaces

For a test IP to trace you may use: 209.50.251.77
They also have an Essential VPS with test downloads available here

Again, sorry for the late response...

Our webmaster is vehemently opposed to a Virtrual Private Server solution.

More about what he's looking for in an e-mail hosting service, specifically:
1. Dedicated box
2. Unix based --> Linux
- Red Hat
- SuSe
- BSD - GNU licensing (?)
3. Other stuff:
- sendmail or qmail
- support both IMAP and POP3
- 5 GB+; support RAID
- RAM: 2 GB+
- Bandwidth: unlimited

Care to explain? I don't pretend to know more than I do about this situation and I guess it's an undue hardship on all of you to walk me through this. I guess the only other thing I can ask for is instead of pointing me to offers and deals by these different hosting services, what's the best way to get standardized reviews on them? Obviously it's different than hardware, software, etc., but is there any kind of magazine, journal, committee, organization, etc., that reviews large-scale web & e-mail hosting providers?

if you have a $500/mo budget.. you can get a fully managed dedicated box for a decent price. Servint is running a p4 3ghz box for $270 w/ a control panel.. with their management. read up at WHT, especially the dedicated servers forum.

err.. missed the ram, raid and unlimited bandwidth part.. heh. well, you could probably swing two boxes w/o control panels... or get a suggestion at WHT for what you're actually doing and get some recomendations. Or possible colocate and get an unmetered port
