**My new comp, not yet built**

Athlon 1400
Sonic Fury (aka Santa Cruz)

**My Hometheater setup situated in the same room but OPPOSITE the comp**

Sony reciever w/ optical/coax/anolog inputs
B&W 602 s2 Loudspeakers * 4 + center
Sennheiser HD-580 cans (just ordered)

Main uses for comp audio and proposed solutions

1. Casual audio listening mp3 etc
Connect SC to reciever via digital coax (needs to be aprox 5m so toslink too$)
Use main speakers/reciever, speakers behind not a problem and would give better sound than buying a set of small comp speakers.

2. Audio Mixing
Use cans connected to reciever (not sound card) while at comp, which I beleive would give better overall sound, imaging etc than separate comp speakers. Comp speakers (Which I don't have btw) would have to be placed in a far from ideal spot, so I think headphones will be the best best. Cans would also have a MUCH wider frequency response, down to 17Hz I think, which is useful as I mainly mix hip hop tracks.

3. Critical Listening
Use main speakers of 2 channel system as would be far superior to any(?) comp speaker setup, I don't need to be at the comp for this. (plus there a nice cream leather couch opposite:D)

4. VERY occasional games playing (use PS2 on main system mostly)
I think I might have to buy a CHEAP set of comp speakers for this, or just use my cans.

Any comments/suggestions, baring in mind what I actually have/have not already bought. I don't really want alternative suggestions for a sound card etc.

Also if anyone has any advice making a 5m long digital coax lead that has one normal connection at the receiver end and somthing to fit in the versajack on the SC I'd be very grateful.

Many thanks
Dom.

p.s In case you couldn't tell the title was a joke :D

And for all you oldies:
"There is NO inputs for a Gramaphone on my reciever!"

I'm not sure why you've decided on the Santa Cruz. There have been many 'mixed' opinions about it on this board. Did you consider the Midiman Audiophile 2496. Do a search in this thread. For all your mixing/high-quality audiophile needs, it seems a more feature-rich choice than the SC. The only thing it misses is 3d sound for games (which I don't use anyway).

Shandy, because I felt it was the best for my price range, and I wanted a bit of game compatability too.

And if I connect the SC digitally then the receiver's DAC will be used, which is of high enough quality.
