Fausto1 should be able to help.

On the other hand, he likes to ride his bike without a seat and only the seatbar there.

Get one of thoes with the space in the middle.
That is the only way your nuts will stop hurting.
Well, that or ride less.

i have a specialized Body Geometry seat. and its conftorable after 3+ hour MTB rides for me. you best bet is to go to a store and look at them

edit: holes are for ventilation and comfort. splits teh seat up does something for you. i remember reading that someplace

so what am i looking for exactly? because im sure they wont let me test ride a seat...

holes are a good thing rite? and most of these high end seats that i see are skinny....thats good too? what separates the cheap and the expensive?

What kind of "shape" are you? Your saddle selection will vary depending on how wide or narrow your hips are relatively speaking. The thing with saddles is that what works for one guy isn't necessarily going to work for another. You'll have to experiment a bit. If you do mailorder from someplace like Performance Bike or Nashbar, you shouldn't have problems returning a saddle that doesn't fit you.

Also, are you wearing a good pair of cycling shorts when you're riding?

What's more important? Personal ass comfort or what some yoyo on the side of the road thinks? The best saddle in the world isn't going to help you if you're not wearing bike shorts. If you really, really, really have a hangup about this, you can get a pair of "mountain bike" shorts which are essentially cargo shorts with a padded lycra liner.

An example of what I'm talking about.

Anywho, as far as saddles that fit bigger guys, the two I'd recommend are the Selle Italia Turbomatic and the SI Prolink. I'll warn you that they'll both feel quite firm at first, but you'll eventually get used to that. Kinda like car seats; the squishy ones feel nice in the parking lot, but the firmer ones are nicer after you've been in the car for three hours.

Turbomatic.

Prolink.

so these two seats wont crush my balls and cause me to be impotent? :) because i mean...that IS more important that being comfortable

Uhm ... if your nads are even touching the seat, much less being "crushed" you really need to examine your riding position?!? The nose o fthe seat should be behind the boys. As far as cycling shorts ... suck it up & wear em. Makes a huge difference. If your that self concious, where another pair of shorts over em, or get those mt. biking shotrts that Fausto suggested (although I haven't tried em myself).

ok so i exagerrated..they aren't being crushed necessarily...just that the whole burning sensation i get when i pee after riding for a while sucks...and i read that there are seats that will help with that.

but im gonna look into those shorts fausto suggested...because seriously im not a fan of tight clothes in general...way to restricting.

That's really not normal. The only time I ever experience any real discomfort or numbness is when I've been in the saddle for more than 5 hours or so (ie- rarely). Make sure your seat is level or very slightly nose-down and not too high. You should have a slight bend in your knee at the bottom of the pedal stroke and your hips shouldn't "rock" back and forth as you pedal (indicating you're reaching for the pedals a bit). The seats with the channel in the middle work great for some and are terrible for others. Sometimes the edges of the channel cause more irritation than the channel itself relieves so you'll have to mess around with a few saddles. Give yourself at least a week to get used to each one.

Well, they have a lycra liner so they might bug you but I'm fairly confident you'll get used to them. Tight is one thing but tight and very stretchy is another. Lycra more or less moves with you as you ride. It'll feel odd at first, but you'll definitely get used to it. I can't stand to wear anything even slightly baggy on the bike as it feels like a drag chute catching the wind.

I've got a big ol' butt and I like the Terry Liberator. You should also get some baggy bike shorts with padding and may even want to invest in a suspension seat post (cane creek being the best).

Those three things will keep your jewels happy.
