Currently have the above card, and Im looking to go a bit upscale. I dont really play games, so 3d stuff isnt terribly important. I do do a lot of photoshop work. Also, I'd like TV out. Im running a 600@830 duron on an iwill kk266. Any suggestions on what would be best for me? I'd like to stay around ~100, but feel free to offer suggestions on stuff up to the ~150 range.

Thanks! :)

Matrox G400
Radeon LE with TV out if you can find one. (? Composite only)
Radeon SDR with TV out (Composite and S-video)

Problem with the Radeon is the funky resolutions in Win 2000. Ie. no native 1280x960 or 1400x1050 resolutions with the non-tweaked drivers.

Ok, so 2 votes for the matrox. Does it have good DVD performance? Or can a specific video card even have a good/bad performance in this area? Basically, Im looking to upgrade my video card and get rid of my hollywood + that I have in one swoop. :)

Looking at newegg, I would be getting a

Matrox G450 32MB DDR 4X AGP Video Card Offering unprecedented 2D and 3D image quality, a full suite of display options and a host of real-world productivity features including DualHead, the Millennium G450 graphics card will change the way you work and play. - OEM Version - with tv out cable Fedex Saver Shipping $10.00
Detail Specs - Product Link -See It! (N82E16814106135) ($88)

Is this what you are recommending?

Other suggestions are also very appreciated! :)

reading anands reviews, it seems that the g450 has horrible 3d performance. Im thinking of

ELSA GLADIAC 511, GeForce2 MX 400, 64MB, AGP, TV-Out, with DVD software. No cable. Retail Box. Fedex Saver Shipping $10.00 ($99)

Seems to have much better 3d performance if I ever decide to use it, and it still have the TV out. His review seems to indicate 2d performance is negligable between the geforce2 mx and the matrox g450. Any downsides to the elsa card? Or is there a better geforce mx card?

Thanks guys!:)

The Radeon has excellent 2D, DVD, and 3D performance. The GF2's can be "hit and miss" with their 2D quality.

Geforce2 MX plus Photoshop often means ouch for the eyes. And you already said you don't really care about 3D. If you do, then consider the Radeon. Also, what OS?

P.S. I forgot to mention the Radeon VE. Lousy 3D, but meant for 2D.

win98 is my OS. Im probably looking to get the radeon LE w/tv out. Its hard to find, but it seems to bundle everything I need. Any downsides or alternative views?

dont think Ill be able to find an LE w/tv out. What is the SDR? What does it add/omit compared to the LE? And does it have TV out? Thats important to me. :)

suggestions about the geforce mx are duly noted, I will shy away from them.

If you want excellent 2D, DVD playback with TV out (composite and S-Video), you may want to consider springing for a Radeon 64 DDR VIVO. Good 3D performer, and video in too. They're on PriceWatch for $168. I know that your budget is up to $150, maybe you can scrape up the extra $18 in the couch, or empty the change jar!

Try to get the retail version instead of the OEM, they are clocked higher (183Mhz)
