I'm new to this. I'm presently considering upgrading my MOBO. Can someone recommend a VIA KT133 AMD MOBO that supports up to 8-IDE Devices.
I want to add a second HDD but I'm full: CD-ROM, HDD, ZIP, CD-R/RW.
Even if I dump my CD-ROM, I still want to go DVD, so I still need at least 5-IDE

My present MOBO is a Tekram P6B40-A4X

Can a Promise Tech ATA66/100 Controller card do the same thing.

If any other recommendations, please advise. Thanks

I know for sure the Abit KT7A-RAID will support upto 8 devices. You should also consider a board using the VIA 133A chipset, which is an upgrade to the 133 chipset.

I know there are other MOBO's that will support 8 devices, I just don't recall off the top of my head which ones will. I'm sure someone with more knowledge will advise.

Go with Asus A7V if you want the original KT133 chip, but I'd personally go with the A7V133, which has the KT133A, supports 266Mhz FSB, and you get RAID 0 capabilities. RAID 0, 1, 0+1 is available, but you have to hack the BIOS. :) Asus beats Abit, in my personal opinion, but do as you wish. You will find a lot of Asus supporters in this forum. Asus gives CONSTANT BIOS updates, even if the motherboard is outdated.

My vote goes to A S U S!!!! :)

All KT133-R or KT133A-R mobo can support up to 8 IDE device. Personally, I'll go for the KT133A. Yes the Promise ATA-66/100 can also be used in conjunction with the onboard IDE controller.
