I'm looking for LCD's that support a *true* 75hz. That is, ones that do not drop the extra frame. The reason for this is so that I can game at 75fps instead of 60. If someone could provide me with a list of screens I'd be really grateful. I have no clue how to determine which ones do and which don't.

And on a side note, I have a friend who owns an old Sony SDM-HS73 and I would also like to know if this monitor supports a true 75hz. Thank you

The refresh rate does not determine what fps you will get- alot more goes into that. If you turn off Vsync in games then your fps can exceed your refresh rate.

99% of all LCDs are set to 60hz, although some (incl. my BenQX2200W) can run 75 hz at lower, non native resolutions. Eg. 1650x is set to 60hz...but 1440x is able to do 75 hz.

There are only a select few models that do 75hz correctly, even among the ones that let you select the 75hz setting.

My brother has an NEC 90GX2 and my impression is that it does true 75hz. The difference in motion smoothness is fairly noticeable if I compare 60hz to 75hz and I haven't seen the frame skipping effect (which I notice on other monitors) on it. I only know of one other model that is supposed to do 75hz, some revision of the VP930b. Both are out of production now though.

There are probably other LCDs that do it properly, but there is basically no way to tell unless you check them out in person. Note that all such LCDs would necessarily be 17/19" models, which are the only ones that have a resolution low enough for DVI to support 75hz.

The refresh rate does not determine what fps you will get- alot more goes into that. If you turn off Vsync in games then your fps can exceed your refresh rate.

He is talking about the actual framerate the monitor displays in the end, which is dependent on the refresh rate.
