You can't beat staying at the Imperial Palace (basically free during the week) if that's the case.
So this summer my Wife is turning 30 years old... For her birthday, I'm taking her on a trip to Las Vegas since she's never been there. So I'm thinking 5-star hotel for sure (She's picky about hotels) and I'm stuck between staying at the Bellagio or the Venetian. Has anyone stayed in either one recently? Is there another hotel to consider? She's not going to gamble much, and I'll be mostly playing Blackjack and maybe Poker.
Since you explicitly state "5-star" then I should say that according to Forbes, which has one of the most respected independent hotel rating systems, these are your 5-star options in Vegas:
Tower Suites at Encore
Tower Suites at Wynn
Skylofts at MGM Grand
Mandarin Oriental
These are your 4-star options in Vegas:
Vdara
Encore
Palazzo
Wynn
Signature at MGM Grand
M Resort
Venetian
Four Seasons
Aria
Bellagio
Aria Sky Suites
You think the aria sky suites are only 4 star? The service isn't as good as the others but the actual rooms (I stayed in the 2 bedroom penthouse 53rd floor and 55th floor) are as nice as the Wynn.
Like I said Mandarin is in a league of its own when it comes to Vegas. AFAIAC Mandarin suites get their own star and everything else is below it.

If you get drunk enough, the Police have rooms you stay in for free.
Like I said, they're one of the most respected independent reviewers. They take service into account. You admitted that the service isn't as good as the others. Hence the 4 satr rating from Forbes.
