Hey,

I have a bunch of my websites setup in CuteFTP. I set them up a couple years ago and forgot the password for one of the sites. I would look in CuteFTP, but the passwords are blacked-out with dots. Is there any way to find out what I entered for the password? Is there a crack that can take away the black dots, or a way to find the password in the registry... PLEASE HELP!!!

*Note: I need to tell my boss what the password is. I don't really need to know what it is since I can connect through CuteFTP. 🙂

Thanks!

If you get really desperate, you can set up a packet sniffer on your network card (try downloading Ethereal) and sniff the password off the wire. FTP passwords are transmitted in cleartext.

revelation? there are some newer tools if he doesnt have 98 as well. cant remember the names offhand but they work the same as revelation.

Come to think of it, this system IS running Win98SE. What kind of tricks have you got in mind?

<thanks for your help>

Install CuteFTP Pro 1.0+, import your CuteFTP regular sitelist into Pro, then use Pro's "Export as text file" to get the full unencrypted site info dumped into a text file. Voila! No funky packet sniffers needed.

install servu... or was it war ftp... set it up so it shows the password as clear texts when someone tries to logon.. now edit the config for cuteftp bookmark so it directs to your own computer, try to log on and see in servu what password cuteftp sent through

I installed Cute FTP Pro 2.0 and imported the site list, then exported that info into a text file. Worked great! THanks again for the help!
