help me figure out upgrade

I'm dying to upgrade my system, but prices are still a little scary. Ever since hearing about dual core I've been drooling over it though the X2 3800+ at $300 is really tantalizing (though still super-expensive). I play almost no games anymore, though I use my computer constantly for high end 3D and 2D work (3ds max, photoshop, flash).

Currently I'm on AXP3000+, 9800 pro, 1.5 gigs ram (3 different sticks of 512). I'm pretty set on an X2 3800+, so what I'm really wondering is:

What would be the best bang for my buck video card for me? I really don't want to spend over $200.
Should I get a 2x1024 ram package? (will it really make that much of a difference, for $140?)
Should I stick with AGP so I can keep my video card and keep the price down?
And, lastly, is there some new socket launch for AMD coming up soon that uses DDR2, and possibly cheaper prices on lots of stuff (that'd mean waiting even longer)?

edit: And oh yeah will be Antec 350W PS that came with my Sonata case still be alright?
edit2: Oh yeah, do you guys think there'd be any decent resale value in my current stuff? Everything still works perfectly.

if you can find one, pick up the opteron 165 (more cache than 3800 and usually better o/c).

if you are not gaming, the 9800 will be fine

go for the 2x1GB sticks as 939 boards dont like 4sticks

skt m2 will be coming out in i think Q1 06, which does support ddr2, but ddr2 is not necessary yet for the a64 cpus.

the antec 350W psu is pretty close, you may want to get something in the 430+W from a good brand like seasonic, fortron(fsp), enermax, etc. since you will be using a dc machine. i think a sc venice draws ~65W, where a dc 3800 will draw 110W,

resell, well i would just look iin the fs/ft section to see what others are getting.

amd is coming out with the m2, which supports ddr2 ram. it should be out end of Q1 for 2006.

the 9800 is fine but the only board i know of that supports AGP and has PCI for future expansion is the ASRock board. if you want PCI express, go with the 6800GS. it's right at $200.

you should stick to 2 x 1024. later on you may need 4gb...

your 350w is cutting it close but it could work
