Help me figure out Singer/Song

I found this song again a few months ago. I wrote it down but now i lost it.

its an old song.

the song is essentially a one hit wonder. I remember reading up on the singer and she typically sang gospel music. It was her only main stream song. Its mellow beat to it.

anyhow the video has her in a large house walking up a giant staircase. Its a pretty cheesy video. It had nothing to do with the song. Not that most videos do.

Its not Total Ellipse of the Heart.

I place it somewhere in the mid to late 70s. possibly early 80s.

The lyrics escape me right now. i know if I can remember them I'd find the song. that's how I did it the first time.

I know how fustrating this is. I was on a quest to find three songs prior to google and the world wide web. Try that on for size!

The songs were:

1) Carpenters - Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft (I heard it orginally as a child back in 1976). You didnt hear anything back then unless the powers that be put it on the radio so I had to wait until 1999 to hear that song again (being that I didnt know the name of the song or who sung it, just a few words).

2) Ultravox - Reap the Wild Wind (80s video I used to like, this was very hard to find since I only remembered "take my hand" and one or two other words). Also when I found it back around 2004 there were no lyrics sites with this song up. I found it when someone put out a request to find it and remembered more words than I did! Other people also had bits and pieces because the title isnt clear in the song since it blends with the music.

3) Burning Sensations - Belly of the Whale (heard it back in the mid 80s, someone here at AT helped me find it after a 25 year wait in early 2009)

Debby Boone would be a good guess. She was about like a one hit wonder. Damn I can't remember what she sang though......You light up my life?

Debby Boone sang You light up my life. They don't have an actual video for it. Its just her singing. So I can rule her out.

Singer I"m looking for is a white lady.

I didn't know of that website with the humming. Even better for some other songs.

I think if I focus the rest of the day when I go to sleep I'll get some lyrics and be able to google it.

blah I found it. I went over to my cousin's and borrowed his huge karaoke discs. and found the song. 15 discs later I find it.

Charlene, Never Been to Me.

how i got gospel singer is beyond me. I might be confusing people.

I was around during the 70s. She scored a hit again with that same song in 81 or 82 if I remember correctly.

Edit: BTW, all the feminists, including my ex, hated that song.
