Help me figure out my O/C Mystery - Opty 165

I'm trying to figure out why my RAM is so unstable during my overclock on the system in my sig. Here are some screenie's of the configuration:

CPU-Z 1
CPU-Z 2
BIOS 1
BIOS 2
BIOS 3
BIOS 4

So at this configuration, i'm prime95 stable with load temp's in mid 50's C. Cpu voltage is not much over stock, and actually might even be stable with a step down on voltage. The CPU overclocks like a charm. But the second i try to heavily use memory (such as play a game or 3dmark, or the "Blend" test of prime95 (which tests alot of RAM), it craps out on me. This configuration is DDR493 using the 333mhz memory (aka the divider) config in the BIOS so I don't understand why my RAM would be so unstable, it's right around stock speed for it. I'm currently creating this thread with 2 instances of prime95 small FFT's torture test running with no problems.

Before hand, to achieve stability for gaming and everything else, I have to bump down to around 275mhz (2.4ghz range) using the same configuration. This made my DDR speeds lower of course. I was just looking to stabilize this 2.7ghz o/c and make full use of the DDR500 speed of RAM.

Any suggestions?

I've got the SAME exact problem with my Corsair TwinX2048 PC3200C2PT Brad. I've got an X2 4800+, but I've got the same mobo. :|

why would i need to bump up the voltage to run DDR500 aka stock speeds? I would think it'd still take the stock 2.7 or 2.8v to run ddr500 as specified, right?

the model # of the RAM is OCZ5002048ELGE-K

OK, so that model is listed as 2.8v at ddr500. try upping to 2.8v and run memtest to check stability.

despite what everyone says the opty real are memory finicky

you need to find the right timings and speed

I would recommend lower the divider to run the ran closer to 225 with 3-3-3-8-1t-16-256

drive srength may need to be adjusted

you are overclocking not 1 but 2 cores..so one memroy controller may not be so good at high OC

My venice 3200@2750 was able to run my ram at 250..but with my opty 170 I had to lower speed and timings..who cares..cpu speed is so much more important

nealh, what are these two settings? I've bolded the ones I'm referring to.

3-3-3-8-1t-16--256

TRC=16

Idle Cycle limit= 256

if you look in this thread..excellent tutorial on ram timings..still have no idea on most and way too many options...

the above settings are to looseen to try to get stablity

the other settings that are important are : some set to

DRAM Drive Strength: 5,6,7,8

DRAM Data Drive Strength: 1,2

ram has a huge effect on the opterons...but not perfroamce IMHO get the cpu max and the ntry to get ram setting that owkrs without and do not worry about 1:1 or high ram speed
