Help me extend my hdd under w2k server.

Hi all

Well, to cut a long story short. We have a w2k server whose primary 60GB hdd is on the way out and I got a 160GB to replace it. Managed to clone everything from the primary to this new hdd and everything works fine.

The problem is I'm only able to access the full 160GB under windows after the Intel IAA is loaded so when I used drive image's floppy to clone the drive I could only access 137GB.

Now I wanted to clone the secondary 40GB drive to this 160GB as well and only have 1 hdd going in this server. However, since we are a poor company we can't afford a server version of Partition Magic.

I was wondering if I could stick this 160GB drive in a WinXP machine as a slave and use PM to expand the Extended partition to take up the full 160GB and then stick this drive back into the server, then just copy the data over from the 40GB. Since we've only got data on the 40GB no programs at all.

The reason why I didn't try this, as I'm a bit unsure if by doing this I would mess up my drive letters. Like if I put the 160GB into the winxp workstation as slave it would obviously change all drive letters to come sequentially after my existing primary drive. When I pull this 160GB drive out and put it back into the server as the primary drive would they go back to being C:\, D:\, etc etc...??? My logic tells me yes but just wanted some confirmation.

Just don't want to screw this up and have to clone the dying 60GB again, afraid it might die halfway through cloning.

Any other suggestions are welcomed.

Thanks in advance.
