I have a Western Digital AC418000 Specs. I have an Abit KT7. My bios is set to ultra dma enabled, and pio mode is set to auto. In win2k I goto my device manager and look at the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers and see that under primary IDE channel device 0 has DMA selected if available. But under current transfer mode it says PIO mode. This doesn't look good. Did I not install my via 4in1 drivers correctly. Is PIO mode the best my hard drive can do. Is there a program that I can run to get a better picture of what pio mode my hard drive is in. I used the datalifeguard tools to ensure that my hard drive is in ATA 66 mode. I have the proper cable. Any suggestions.

little bit of an update, I used the datalifeguard utility to put my drive into ata33 mode. Now in win2k my drive says "Ultra DMA mode". I have a sinking feeling that for 3 whole years, which is how long I've had this computer, that I've been running in freaking PIO mode when I thought I was in ATA66. I feel like I should be able to sue Western Digital for something.

shouldn't you have checked these settings before when you first got the pc??

go ahead make fun.
I did check the settings, when I had the Abit BE6 I know that I was in Ultra DMA mode. So I just assumed that when I upgraded to my Abit KT7 there would be no issues. Guess I was wrong. For all I know I could have a faulty motherboard. Damn.
