Okay so it looks like I'm having a job interview this week for my 1st fulltime job (ISP tech suppt...) and I'm debating how to dress. I assume somewhat spiffy would be considered good. My closet is all polo shirts and blue jeans though. I have a pair of beige dockers and MAYBE black ones. My dress shirts and ties are all 75 miles away and its been so long since I've worn them that they might not even fit anymore.

What do I wear? Should I go out and buy some colored dress shirt and tie to go with the dockers for the job interview? What color shirts would work and what wouldnt with beige pants? How about ties? :)

Thanks all, I'm not good at this more formal dress thing ;)

What sort of company is this? Have you ever been around there before? If this is your first time visiting and you have no idea what it's like I'd say that you should probably go too far on the side of dressy rather than casual. Dress shirt and tie w/slacks and dress shoes. If you know that it's rather slack there, still go at least with khaki's and a tucked in polo(no sneakers, get brown shoes!)

Get a nice pair of khakis. Pair it up with a dark collared shirt. Roll up the sleeves and tuck it in. Come in with a nice pair of shoes, and a fresh haircut. That's what I'd do. If the job is a little more formal, don't roll up the sleeves.

You could also try a pair of khakis with a nice wool sweater. Not in warm areas of course. This is a little more informal. I'd prefer the first choice though.

Oh, and make sure your clothes are ironed, and CLEAN!!!

Who cares about the clothes...your mere words exude a masculine sexuality, a highly erotic aroma of power, wealth and influence.

I personally think the whole blue collared shirt and khakis is completely played out, especially for the science folk who are applying for a job in the high-tech industry or bio-tech industry (I $#!T you not when I say that EVERYONE dresses like this even though it doesn't really look too great. Think of it as a default setting). Short of buying yourself a nice suit (which I recommend), I recommend (depending on your tastes) simply stepping into your local Macy's, Nordstrom, Ken Cole, Banana Republic, etc. and ask the peeps there what's in fashion and what sort of thing would look good on you for a job interview. They have a pretty good idea of what's going on. Just make sure that you are the ultimate decision maker since sometimes their advice can be a little strange.
