Help me declutter this small space (pics inside)

Here's the story. I originally had a bit of an apartment in my parent's house consisting of two bedrooms. The larger room was my original bedroom. I got chased out of it because increasing traffic noise was keeping me up (it's bad where I am). The second smaller room I used as an office and den. Now I've had to move my bed into that small room to escape the noise.

So here's the dilemma. It's cluttered. I have a bed in there now to go along with a large 80s era TV unit and a fairly big desk. I think I need to downsize the furniture to something more compact. The TV and computer desk are pretty much tethered to the one wall because of where the cable and LAN lines are.

The room is roughly 8' x 12'. There's an air vent between the coffee table and TV that can't be blocked.

I want to replace the TV unit with something smaller, inexpensive. It currently stores a 26'' TV, AV receiver, cable box, turntable, and my PS3. The PS3 has to be kept well ventilated so it can't really go in a cabinet or cubby.

So what does ATOT think I should do with this room. How can I rearrange this or what new pieces should I get to give me some more space. Replacement furniture suggestions have to be inexpensive and available in Ontario, Canada. Anything can go except the bed.

Yeah, I know. I'm moving out in a year hopefully. Just finishing up me education here because the college is near by. The recession killed my earlier plans.

The pictures are deceiving. It gets messy quickly. I think the big problem is just how chunky the furniture is.

Get rid of that damn ugly ent center, get something small and modern looking. The one you have makes the room look like shit. Also, buy a new table for your bedside, that one you have looks like hell. And, as loki8481 suggested, under bed storage for your junk.

yeah... I bet you'd see a huge improvement if you ditched the entertainment center (and all the tchotchkes), wall-mounted your TV, and put a dresser where the entertainment center is.

take that lack ikea bedside table out and rotate your bed, hang the tv and get rid of the wood from the early 80's entertainment cabinet.

The first thing you need to do is dust around your TV.

Really though, I don't think it's that cluttered. That's not much space but you're making pretty good use of it. I'm sure it can get cluttered quickly, but that's just how it is with small rooms.

Get some long cables and tuck them under the baseboard. That will allow you to place the TV & computer whereever you want without the cables looking awful.

I came here to post this. I've seen these in small dorm rooms, and being able to fit your computer desk and bed in half the amount of space is great!

I'd probably start with a loft bed with either your entertainment center or desk underneath it. If that's not enough decluttering, then get a really basic TV stand with shelves underneath it. I have my "phat" PS3 in such a shelf, and it stays plenty cool with an opening in the front and back.

He could get rid of some of the stuff in the room too. Also, we have no idea how the closet is organized, so presumably he could store less frequently used items in there.
