I consider myself semi-intelligent, but I cannot for the life of me, figure out a consistant rule for SLI compatability.

First I thought only Select nForce chipset Mobos would support it.

Then while investigating a Mobo upgrade to a P5B Deluxe Mobo, it appreas that some Intel Chipsets support SLI.?!

Bottom line is I want to upgrade my system with a Asus Mobo that will support BOTH the upcoming Kentsfield Core (Core 2 Quad - http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2848) AND SLI 7900GT s.

Examples of Core 2 Quad Capable Mobos Bieng:
P5WDG2 WS Pro
P564 WS Pro
P5W DH Dlx
P5B Dlx
P5B
P5B-E

Does Such a Beast that supports SLI and Core-2-Quad Exist?

How Can I tell, I can't tell from Asus's site, and Nvidia apprears to say that only NForce Chips support SLI?

Help Greatly Appreciated.

Welcome to my conundrum! I'm in your same position.

Here's the deal. None of those chipsets officially support SLI.

However, there are hacked drivers out there (check Xtremesystems or NGOHQ) that will support SLI on these motherboards. Quad SLI unfortunately is not supported as of yet.

These drivers will support the latest nvidia cards, but as to whether the fan support for the boards continues when the G80 series is released, your guess is as good as mine.

If you absolutely have to pull the trigger now, go for either the P5W-DH, the P5WDG2 WS Pro, or the P5B Deluxe. If you can wait a month for the new nForce boards to hit, do so.

Yes. I see what you're talking about. Thanks for the reply.

I suspect the new nForce Boards won't 'Officially' support Core-2-Quad.

Interesting, I wonder if it is a commercial or technical reason only Intel Chipset Mobo's are listed as offically supporting Kentsfield. I'm tempted to play the conspirist and say it is for commercial reasons, but I suspect that b/c the new proc is still in development, Intel took the safe route by only aadding Intel Chipsets to the early Compatability List.

Hmmm...

If you want Conroe/SLI you got two choices. 1)Get the P5N32 SLI or the newly announced P5N32 SLI Premium or...2)Wait til (end of November according to rumors) for the new 590 C55 chipset mobos. I dont know if the new P5N32 SLI Premium is quad core ready or not. I'm thinking the newer 590 mobos in November will be though because quad core launches just before they show up. If one is to believe all the dates being thrown about.
