well, i've finally narrowed down what i want.... my new lappy has to be:
DDR3 and have a P9500 centrino2
So far i haven't been able to find many things i like, but i'm between the celvo 8660 and the sony vaio Z series. anyone know anything else out there that is ddr3 and can come with a p9500?

i really like both of these laptops but i cant decide if i need to go big or not >_<! plus the sony is a little more

Quite a few. More will be coming every day pretty much. Most vendors are in progress of moving there line-ups to centrino 2. What are you looking for in a laptop and what is your budget?

budget is under $2500. i'm not really sure what i'm looking for, lol. I'm only going to have it for a year. I will be leaving for japan next month and need a lappy to email, watch movies, etc. I don't really plan on doing any gaming, but having the option to do so would be nice. However, i DO plan on doing some programming and what not, so i need a bit of power. I'm really in between the clevo and the sony because they both offer what i want. the only difference is one is bigger, higher res, and can play games and the other is smaller easier to carry (the laptop would be with me at all times...just about. train rides to school, etc.) and has great battery life. hrmmm decisions decisions >_<

if youre going to have it always youll wish it was the smaller one. i wouldnt carry anything biggeer/heavier than my 14" thinkpad on a regular basis.

OP, the Thinkpad T400 and T500 both come with DDR3 but not the P9500 (P9400 and P9600 only). What is special about the P9500?

I checked out the Thinkpad T400 and T500 and they both do come with DDR3 1067MHz RAM. But they only offer P8400 | P8600 | T9400 | T9600.

You may already know this but the P9500 processor, like the P8400 and P8600, uses 25W making it run cooler (the T-Series all use 35W). So with the P9500 you get the same speed as the T9400 (2.53 GHz) but it uses less power and they are virtually the same price according to newegg.

I checked out the Clevo on www.rkcomputer.net and unless you know of a cheaper place to shop, I think you might want to consider the Gateway P-7811 FX. Because it is about a $1000 cheaper and it is only a little less powerful. You still have 4GB of DDR3 RAM but it is 800 MHz instead of 1066 MHz, and the processor is the P8400 (2.26 GHz). For what you are going to use it for and for the length of time you plan to use it, the Gateway might be the better choice.

thanks for the replies:

sauron: thats a good point, i'm a beefy fella, but carrying around an extra 9 pounds would be bothersome :/
oil: well, i'm not DEAD set on p9500, just, it has a lower TDP therefore runs cooler and better battery life...t9600 would be ok too i suppose, i'll check out those thinkapads, but i have always hated thinkpads, those stupid eraser pointers and extra mouse buttons piss me off, lol

wakasenshi: the gateway is too damned huge. the max i can go is a 15.4" screen
