Help me decide

I'm gonna build something new sometime soon, and I have to choose between either:
2x 512 MB of RAM + 36 GB Raptor
OR
2x 1 GB or RAM + Old IDE HD.

What would you choose, and why?

Easy choice. More RAM.

The 36 GB Raptor is slower, & the 74 GB one isn't worth it generally.

The newer SATA2 HDDs with 16 MB cache are pretty much as fast as Raptors now.

I agree with n7, raptors arn't worth the price premium, 2GB help greatly in BF2 and probably will with future games too, a no brainer IMHO.

very true. the raptors aren't worth the little performance increase you get out of them

get the ram. some games now are using more than 1gb of ram like bf2.

more memory also mean less disc swapping specially in BF2, so overall the system will feel faster with 2Gb memory.
