Help me decide which laptop

I need something nice and small and under $800.
I went to best buy just to see what they have but i wont be ordering from them.
I'll try to find some place online to get either one of the two. I dont know much about the Turion chipset, but is it supposed to rival the Centrino or something?

Toshiba

HP

Turion is AMD's mobile CPU which competes with Intel's. Turions are generally cheaper, but, that's as far as I'll go on that. For laptops, my vote is for intel for reasons of reliability and power efficiency.

There are a lot of choices now in the $800 range. What are your usage druthers?

Between the two you cite, I would go with the Toshiba - primarily because of the 1-in smaller screen. That was one of your first criteria.

Yea I'm definitely leaning towards the toshiba but i favor HP's quality.

I sold my 12" ibook which I love dearly because of the size but it was just too slow. The other thing is I may wipe Vista and run Ubuntu on it so I can do web development. I plan on hooking the laptop up to a larger screen and use it as my everyday computer. I wont be playing games so the graphics isnt a concern. I better start checking to see if Ubuntu can run on either.

OK - for that usage, size is not very significant. HP quality is generally good - but all brands have their horror stories. For your usage, I would go with whichever is the best deal, leaning towards Intel as the CPU. HP has either.

Intel Pentium? No way I think you should get a HP with AMD Turion give you a better battery saving than Pentium and Nvidia 6150 Go is bit faster than Intel GMA.

Yea, they are saying Pentium, but they don't mean it. They mean Core 2 Duo

In that case I would go with C2D over AMD Turion but both are doing good anyway so whatever you want to pick..

Hrm...

Not sure how "nice and small" you want, but I got my Toshiba A215 for $700.

It's got a 15.4" screen, which is about as big as most ppl are comfortable lugging around. I consider it "nice and small"...

It's a multimedia machine, with 2GB RAM, DVD SuperMulti (+/-R double layer) burner with Labelflash, built-in web cam, Harmon/Kardon style speakers, 5-in-1 media adapter, yada, yada, yada.

Personally, I think you would be a lot happier with an A215 than a U305. I know I am!

I didn't except much out of this thing, but an growing quite attached to it. 😉

LoL!

Small world! 😀
