Building a system using an AMD 64 X2 4600+ (Socket 939), and an Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe. I'm not really sure which graphics card to get though. I'm willing to shell out $100-$130 for a graphics card. I'm only interested in getting an Nvidia card however, I don't know if I should go dx9 or dx10. The primary purpose of this rig is going to be to play games like Battlefield 2 and Rainbow Six Vegas. Should I go 7800GT, 7900GS, 7900GT, or 8600GS? I probably missed a few cards in between so feel free to bring them up too.

7900GT would be the best performer, followed by the 7900GS. Make sure you have at least a 400W-450W power supply on the system. Otherwise the cards won't run at full potential. If you only have a 300 or 350W supply, go with a 7600GT and overclock it around 5-10% :)

7800GT just kicks 7900GS ass
7900GT kicks the crap out of 7800GT , 7900GT and 8600GS

The cheaper X1950pro kicks 7900GT , 7800GT , 7900GT , 8600GS

The X1950XT completly beat up 7900GTO , 7950gt , X1950pro , 7900gt , 7800gt, 7900gt , 8600gs , 8600gts.

King : X1950xt in the midrange

But if your going to play BF2 and rainbow six vegas then i suggest you just get 2600xt as it consume less power , produce less and also cheaper than 8600gts. Rainbow six vegas is shader heavy game.

My understanding is that the 7900GS is more similar to the 7800GT than the 7900GT architecture, and is clocked higher. IMHO, you have this backwards. (And I own an 7800GT)

You are correct, all the benchmarks i've seen show the 7900GS leading the 7800GT by a good margin.
