I need some new games for the PC. Already played the big ones: Unreal, Half-Life, Need For Speed, etc.
What is the best out there these days in these catagories?

First Person Shooter:
I hear that Wolfenstien is a really good one. Buy it? Any others FPS games to consider?

Driving/Racing/Car Simulation:
I know nothing tops NFS5, but what's another driving game? Is Carmegeddon TDS 2000 any good. (Is it a driving game or FPS or both?) I've read posts about some other driving games but I didn't know if they were for PC or console.

FlightSim:
I bought a FF flight stick back when I bought Falcon 4.0 but Falcon just has too much of a learning curve and I never got into it. Have Combat Flight Sim WWII Europe Series but I could go for some modern pilot action with not so much of a learning curve. I like realisim and all but I'm not out to get my pilot license.

Adventure:
My whole family has enjoyed the Tomb Raider series, my five year old son included. Any other games like this worth checking into?

Also he likes dinosaurs. Any games that feature them? They don't necessarily have to be just for kids.

Please list your ideas for these types of games. Thanks.

The latest games I've purchased were Red Faction and Return To Castle Wolfenstein and they both rocked.

Definitely Return to Castle Wolfenstein. It's worth the money for the multiplayer alone. Also consider IL-2 Sturmovik. It is without a doubt one of the best WWII flight sims ever (finally, a game that eclipses European Air War!). Madden 2002 is good, too (if you don't already have it on the PS2).

FPS - If you got plenty of cash get RTCW. I'd wait till it drops in price and try
No One Lives Forever
Hitman Codename 47
Serious Sam
Deus Ex
Undying

Adventure/RTS - I don't play many of these
Dungeon Keeper 2
Age of Empires/Kings

Most of these games are now under $30.00 and some Cases under $20.00

I'd recommend :

Action
Max Payne (Definitely Game of The Year)
Return to Castle Wolfenstein (Try the multiplayer test and see if you like it, I've ordered the whole game myself and I'm just waiting for it to arrive)
Serious Sam : The First Encounter (Look around the web and you'll probably find a demo of this, very fun indeed)

RTS
Red Alert 2 + Yuri's Revenge (Extremely well put together RTS game/expansion)

Driving
Carmageddon TDR 2000 (I liked the first Carmageddon's, 1 and 2, don't know about the third one though, but you might give it a try)

Adventure
Grim Fandango (The best adventure game ever, it might be a bit old, but it's still a great game, not sure if it suits everybody though)

Hope this helps! :)

Have you tried RPGs / role playing games?
Fallout 1 & 2 are excellent and only $10 for both -- but they aren't for kids!
Planescape: Torment is also really really good, for grownups, and cheap.
Diablo 1 is cheap, dumb fun but not really role-playing.

Squad-level turn-based tactical combat?
Jagged Alliance 2 is almost as fun as X-Com but it runs much better on modern computers, $8 from ebgames.com

I would also recommend Planescape: Torment. It is an excellent single player rpg. It has one of the most unique storylines I have ever seen. The only word of warning is it is more dialog intensive rather than combat oriented (in fact you earn more experience through dialog than fighting) so you might not like it if you are looking for lots of fighting.

Right now Walmart is selling it packaged with another game (can?t remember the name off hand) for $9.99. Well worth the price, IMO.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein, the single player is really good on some levels, i hate the annoying 'bosses' though, wish it was just normal enemy. However, multiplayer totally rocks!! really REALLY good, not deathmatch but a teamplay system with objectives, mixes of capture the flags and blow some thing up with dynamite and steal stuff. fab.

waitng, just anticipating, Doom 3.

edit: oops i forgot Operation Flashpoint, a sorta war sim FPS with RPG elements... sounds odd but very very good, a bit like how Spec Ops and the ilk should have been, huge maps to run around in, big variety of missions - and theres lots of them. last i heard multiplay was cool but the netcode pretty shoddy, though it was gradually getting fixed so should be ok by now hopefully.

u ask about carmegeddon: not played, the first two were driving about doing skid marks, handbrake turns for comedic "splat the pedestrian" points, er and maybe some racing too.

waiting for Grand Theft Auto 3 too, friend is telling me how great it is on PS2, not that i see him much cos hes always playing it.
