Hell the v8 camaro with a 6 speed will get better highway mileage then a lot of the cars on that list.

Check out the car auctions if you have one in your city.
I'm gonna check one out with my buddy who has a dealership license.
$8k - 9k can get you a nice car with a resale value of prolly 12k-14k.

You can prolly find a public car auction with an entrance fee.

Worth looking into IMO.

For some reason, the camaro doesnt do it for me. I prefer a nimbler japanese car to a beastly american v8.

95-99 Eclipse - Never liked them, especially used, don't care for Mitsu
2000+ Eclipse - Meh, don't care for Mitsu
2000 Mustang - Harsh ride, uncomfortable seats, too many on the road
2000 Cougar - POS-sibly one of the worst cars Ford ever built
2000 Tiburon - Meh
2003 Tiburon - Not bad, but it is a Hyundai
2000 Celica - Nice, reliable car, but a bit of a chore to get power out of it
2000 Solara - Nice, very reliable, and comfortable

If comfort and reliability is highly desired then I recommend the Solara or Accord coupe, or maybe even the Acura CL. The Integra is another good choice if you like a slightly smaller car with the Prelude bringing up the rear.

98+ accord v6 coupe. Getting a 5th gen prelude maybe a little hard to find in that price limit but I will recommend Prelude over accord.

A Civic Si 99-00.
I'm a little bias cause I've owned 2 already.
First one got stolen.
Second one I got for $7300 with 90K miles.

Just tonight, I happenned to park right next to a 2006 Civic coupe and it was dark out.
The 99-00 version still look so much better....its has I timeless style to it.

I was looking to get a 2006 Si but I think I'd rather get a used RSX type-s instead.

IMO, get a Japanese car. I picked up an '02 Maxima for 15k (cad) with 100k and when you drive it, it's like driving on a cloud. American cars would be cheaper but Japanese will not break down as much and already have a decent reputation for reliability. No matter what you are looking for, if it is Japanese and in your price range you can't go wrong.

A Camaro will handle better than those FWD cars you listed... Hell, the previous gen Eclipse weighs more than a Camaro IIRC. It will give you better highway mileage, and possibly city too (shift at 1500rpm).

How so? I drove my Trans Am all through college (the nice months) and my Mustang in the winters. It was great.

Plus, whenever we went out, nobody ever wanted me to drive cause nobody wanted to get stuck in the back seats. :D My poor buddy with a minivan, on the other hand, always seemed to pull DD duty.

95-99 Eclipse - Bit slow, bit rough, and, its a mitsubishi

2000+ eclipse - Smoother, but uglier, and well, its still a mitsubishi.

2000 Mustang - Beastly, gas guzzler, v6 isnt that fast and probably cant do much but go in a straight line, and...its a ford.

2000 Cougar - Looks cool, somewhat unique, not the fastest but not the slowest, inexpensive but probably not bolted that tight, and...its a ford?

2000 Tiburon - Inexpensive, a bit wacky looking, not too fast, but cheap.

2003 Tiburon - Most expensive of the bunch, looks slick, culd be faster, but should be under warranty, least likely to break down, and doubtfully can be found under $8000.

2000 Celica - Small, handles great, no torque, loud and buzzy, probably gets tiring, but is the sportiest of the bunch and is damn expensive, although toyotas last forever.

2000 solara - Basically a two door camry, but is as fast as anything else on the list, and probably the most comfortable of them all, which has got to count for something...and toyotas last forever.

So far the only one Ive had a chance to drive was the cougar, and it was a good drive, but I dont want to make any decisions just yet...

95-99 eclipse bit slow? HA!

I suggest you venture here and take a look around. I had a 270HP AWD talon back in the day...

I was also gonna suggest an Audi (that's what I drive now), but you'd have to be mechanically inclined because getting work done at the dealer costs arm and leg...

Ive got a friend who's got a fast eclipse and I know how fast they can get. But to do that Id have to essentially rice it out, and make it a loud rough ride, and I really dont feel like doing that.

LOL. Engine mods are not rice at all. In fact, good performance modifications are the anti-rice.

"Rice" is 400 lbs of hideous body kits, park-bench rear spoilers, "creative" head / tail / side marker light mods, stickers, cut stock springs, tacky rims, gaudy colors, AutoZone chrome trim...you get the idea.

Actually, a decent sized hatchback will fit more inside than most trunk cars. I was able to fit a fully asssembled Yamaha Razz moped inside my T/A with the seats folded down and the hatch fully shut - which I did on a few occasions. I also carried a full size dresser (~5 feet tall) in the same car, although I did have to bungee-cord the hatch down for that one.

My Mustang (trunk) car, however, couldn't haul crap.

now tell me what coupe is going to fit a decent amount.

ive dealt with the new Tiburon and the older Eclipse hatchbacks, they dont have that much space in all honesty

Small hatchbacks, like the Tiburon and Eclipse, won't hold much, true.
My Trans Am held quite a bit of stuff, if you knew how to pack it right - of course, as HBs go, that's about as big as they get.

All I'm saying, is that you don't necessarily need a large trunk to haul lots of stuff. In fact, there's absolutely no way I could have fit my moped OR that huge dresser in my dad's Crown Vic, even though that car technically has more cargo space.
