So i kinda made an impulsive purchase on this tv at BB.
For $2098.00+tax, and free ship.

But i wont get it till Saturday.

I can't seem to decide if the technology is worth it, or should i wait for full-led.
As the thinness wont make a huge impact on my setup, is it worth it?

But full-led will come at a price initially....

ANyone have this, or any thoughts to add?

IF i walk-away would a regular LCD 55" for around $1500 fill the void left behind?....

P.S. 7100 is Bestbuy's model, 7000 is everyone else.

I've been looking at these, and don't think they are worth it. IMO, if you can't get the 8500, then you should look at plasmas.

LG 90 is on sale for under 1900 for a 55 incher at BB this week. I would get that over any edge lit backlit led panel out there bar none. I would probably get a 90 over a 8500 as well.

What's the 8500 got?

IMO, it has better black levels than the 7000 series. Because of that, the picture of the 8500 has more pop.

Why is that, price? Personally, I avoided the LH90 because of the way they lie about having a 240Hz refresh rate. Instead of taking 60Hz and multiplying it by four to get a true 240Hz, they take 120Hz and use a scanning backlight. It doesn't look as good as the Samsung models, because it's not a true 240Hz refresh.

The idea of the LCD manufacturers making LED backlit LCDs one year and then getting rid of them for bullshit edge LED backlighting makes me sick.

Wait for the new models coming out in March. They have localized dimming instead of edge lighting.

From what I've heard, the new top end UNC9000, and the 2010 8000 series will use both localized dimming and edge lighting.

Yeah, I started questioning the purchase as soon as i found out it wasnt Edge-lit.
APperently the 8500 is led BACK lit, but no specs on number of leds....

We will see how fast these led backlit sets get into the retail channel with all the dust up between Sharp and Samsung.

Depending on the specifics of the sharp lawsuit against samsung which samsung just lost. (As the 8500 is now discontinued) I think this is impacting led local dimming backlight not edgelit tvs, but I'm not finding a lot of info on this other that the fact that there was a lawsuit in the US and that samsung lost.

The next product cycle may be a quick one.

It seems like they've erased it's existence from their site as well, even in the support area. No more firmware upgrades I guess...

Are we expecting price drops when the new models come out in March?

Not the same case / weight as the 8500, but it's the same price as your 7000 and WAY better (nearly on par with the 8500). http://www.amazon.com/Toshiba-55SV67...dp/B001TOD3KA/

(also, the two 1 star reviews on Amazon are not about this TV. One complains about some other REGZA bought 2 years ago, and another complains about how they're not out yet. I hate people sometimes...)

I do not like LGs interpolation implementation either but the IQ is better once calibrated. Color uniformity, matte screen, and the fact that they use more LEDs than samsung uses on the 8500.
