As most of you know already, I own a 1974 VW Westphalia, I am currently looking to purchase another air cooled wunder kar, unfortunately I am having a very difficult time deciding which one of these to purchase ;

1967 Beetle
1966 or earlier split window bus

Please help me decide by voting in my poll, thanks 🙂

Please refrain from any VW bashing.

Thank you for your time and effort in helping me decide 🙂

Not that I'm particularly fond of the minibus, but the beetle is just too common to be fun. If you're gonna get something that's out of the ordinary, go with the minibus. 🙂

There. Now, about those 2 cents I'm owed 😉

That Bus looks shiny even from that picture :Q 🙂

I really can't decide since I spent so much time in both of them...

My family owned a Beetle when I was a kid and my school bus (kindergarden) was a Bus 🙁

I miss them both 🙁

Get the Bus, but remember a fire extinguisher is not optional with one of those

67 is the beetle to own

Yes, I know, the '67 has the best features of all the air cooled Beetles ;

Non sealed headlights
Light wieght
The best looking
Classic dashboard
The best looking running/tail lights
Torsion bar suspension (compared to the crappy Super Beetles McPherson strut front end)

Unfortunately these are 6V 🙁 (will have to convert to 12V)

I always think of the 67 beetle as 12v but I keep forgetting that it was still 6v untill mid year. Either way gotta have 12 V, especially where you live.

For the first time in a long, long, long long while I am really excited about purchasing another vehicle but it is sooooo hard to choose between the two, I would really love to bomb around in a split window bus but the cash outlay is going to be great (about $15,000) while the Beetle will only be about $5,000.

money talks. and that would be one fine beetle.

Given that big of a price difference, I'd have to say it might be a good idea to get the bug now and get the minibus later when the cash is available. Either way, that should be a lot of fun!

The 67' Beetle.

I had a 72' bus and 67' Beetle at one time. You already have a Bus get the little guy.

I was the second owner of my 67'. I had the 09 dist. in it so it didn't have that classic
exhaust rumble of #3 being a little retarded. Rolled over 300k when I sold it. 4rebuilds.

not bashing here but i wouldn't drive either one lol.
New VW's are pretty tight however.
Out of the 2 def the minibus! I think it looks cooler, not as common as a bug, and when built up and painted look like those little hotwheel cars i owned as a kid where as the bug is just a bug.

go different go bus!

Up for more votes ^^^

Roger, buy something made since I was born

Hey Skoorb, I don't want to buy a vehicle that's only 5 years old 😉

You guys have to remember something, I'm an old fart, I like old cars because they bring back the memories of my youth 🙂

Hmm.. Damn, that's a toughy. Why not both?! 😉

I'm inclined to vote for the Bug, since as others have said.. you already have a bus.. But the older Bus and the Westfalia are very different beasts.

That split window is the same thing as the 27(?) window Busses, right?

I'm going to go for the Bus, since they are more rare.

What do you plan on doing for an engine, regardless of what you get?

One of these days, I'm going to put a 2.2L TypeIV into a Bug... Mmm.. Power AND reliability. 😉

Edit: Well, I read through the thread.

Damn, that IS a big price difference..... That might sway my vote a little.. but I still like the Bus because it is more unique, and I'm drawn to unique things... lol
