Help me decide on which iPad... ugh!

Homerboy

Lifer
Wife needs for a POS for his business.
I need for some other small applications/use.
Kids will tinker with it as well.
Most data will be through WiFi/hotspot except when wife using as POS at some conventions/shows.

These things are tricky....

You can get a BRAND NEW one for $630 through T-Mobile and that includes 200MB of data each month (more than enough for our needs)

Or you can get a used iPad 3 for $350 through various carriers with a data rate of $20-$15 a month ($240-$180 per year... total then is ~$600-$550 for the 1 year cost of the iPad)

Or you can get a used iPad 2 for $275 (though harder to find...) with the same data contacts per month as listed in for the iPad 3... so $525-$475 total 1 year cost.

It's like it's ALMOST better to buy a brand new one on TMobile, but the damned entry price is so steep!

New as iPad air? There is zero reason to buy an iPad 2 that thing is a relic and a ripoff.

I have a philosophy that the only things worth buying are the ones configured with either max storage and only wifi or min storage and LTE, and I lean heavily to 16GB LTE.

I also think you will regret an iPad 2/3 within a year when they start to slow down. At least with the air, it will be good for years.

But what is going to "slow down"?
It's going to get used for a simple POS application (SquareUp) and a stats program from baseball/basketball... and maybe some light use around the house for some video watching, light browsing.

I don't get why people need heavy CPUs or storage in mobile devices.

If you have decent credit, ask T-Mobile about their 2-year, $100 downpayment thing for the iPad Air. The deal is meant only to get people to try their network, so it's literally an interest-free loan for an iPad...

An iPad 2 is definitely more than serviceable for those uses. But so would an iPad Mini brand new @ $300 be as well.

I have and use every day, an Ipad 1 and it can do all that. Well I never used Squarup but I mean I can run most every app in the store, there are a few that say they require a newer one but from I've seen seem to be games or really heavy apps.

Video watching is smooth as silk. Therefore It appears to me all you really need is the Ipad 2.

Interesting...
I actually use TMo for my phone (and it's more than adequate)

Screen is too small I think for the squareup app. I looked into them actually.
I'd like the larger real estate.

See that's my point... Thanks for the info!

Interesting... Does this $0 down deal allow for the 200MB/month too? I'm digging through their website right now, but it's forcing me to pick a plan it seems
