I've decided that my Tekram 390 Ultrawide SCSI card is the bottleneck in my system, and after pricing cards in the FS/FT forum, I've narrowed it down to two possibilities:

Adaptec 19160 for $125 u160, Dual Channel, etc

OR

Tekram DC-390U2B for only $45, Ultra2 Wide, 80mb/sec, etc.

Now, I only have one SCSI drive, it's a Seagate Cheetah 10k RPM 18GB, so would it be worth it for me to spend $80 more for u160 SCSI? How much performance difference are we talking about here? Thoughts and opinions on these two cards welcome!!

More so than bandwidth I'm interested in quick load times and such. Transfer speed isn't of huge consequence since it's my only SCSI device, although it's nice having 0% CPU usage when burning at 16x. :)

you don't really need the u160 interface if you only have like 1 drive as that single drive alone won't saturate the bus. Also consider the drive interface as well.

you won't see any difference between the 2 cards you mentioned. In fact, you probably won't see any difference between all three.

Save your money.... Go with the Tekram. You wont tell the difference with low drive counts in typical usage. You might look at the 390-U2W version instead of the U2B. The W has a repeater/expander to create a single ended bus segment for CD's (non LVD) which would be real nice for future expansion. If you just want disks.. the U2B is fine.
