Help me decide on new heatsink/fan

My 3200+ winchester get as high as 52C under load using the stock cooler. I expect this temperature to go even higher when the hot weather arrives here in Texas.

Any advice on a good cooler (below $50) that will be easy to install.

I was thinking of maybe one of these:

1. Thermaltake Venus 12
2. Arctic Cooling Freezer 64
3. ThermalRight X90

Do any of those require the installation of a special mounting bracket? I do not want to take out my motherboard to install it.

thanks.

Does the Thermalright XP-120 and the Zalman 7700Cu require for me to take the mobo out?

Also, I would like to keep the price below $50 if possible. The XP-120 is nice one but I am afraid it a little to expensive with the added fan.

Zalman 7700Cu or AlCu. The Copper-only model is pretty heavy, which is why I'd go with the Aluminium/Copper version.

I have the Venus 12. Not bad for a deaf person 😉
You can choose cool, OR you can choose quiet. You can't have both.

The plus of the Venus 12 is that the fan can be temperature controlled. So you can have it be pretty quiet when idling. But when you peg the processor to 100%, you can really hear the thing.

Winchester runs nice and cool as is. I would get a Zalman 7000 from here: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de...133529?v=glance&s=electronics&n=507846

It comes with all the necessary mounting hardware and doesn't break the bank, but will offer quiet and supreme cooling. And, it will fit most all motherboards. I have a 7000Cu that will be sitting on my newly ordred Winnie in a few days. It sits on a P4 2.8c @ 3.3 currently and keeps it plenty cool. The maximum watts consumed is roughly equivalent for a P4 3.2c and a 3500+ Winch, right around 67watts.

Thanks for your suggestion guys.

A will avoid the Zalman because had a bad experience with my previous Zalman 6000 CU. It appeared that one of the fins was touching something (maybe the heat sink on the MOS FET) and shorted 2 of my power (burning smell) before I found out what the problem was. I don't want to risk another expensive power supply since the 7700 is very wide and sits very low.

The Thermalright and the Freezer 64 appears to require the installation of a special bracket. I don't want to mess with that specially if I have to take my mobo out.

That leaves with the Venus 12 but some have complained that it get dirty very quick.

Not very many good choices for socket 939 I guess. I will keep looking around.
