Help me decide on a videocard!

Here is my system:

It was put together by Dell. I upgraded the ram, everything else is what it came with.

P4 1.7Ghz
Intel Motherboard (?) - Intel D845PT (only 4x AGP I believe)
512mb DDR-2100 RAM

I am torn between a Leadtek GeForce 4 Ti4400 (plan on overclocking) and a Radeon 9700. I don't want to waste my money if the GF 4 will be outdated quickly (and it looks like it will). My current games run too poorly at low low resolutions on my GeForce 2 MX. I plan on playing Battlefield 1942 (currently unplayable), NOLF 2 (unplayable), UT 2k3 (barely), Mafia (LOW, LOW, LOW detail barely playable).

Thanks for suggestions.

id say the 9700 no question, you could wait for the geforce fx to come out and see where that rates with the radeon but beyond that I wouldnt bother waiting for too much else.

ditto, went from 8500 radeon to 9700 pro and its AMAZING! games fly now no doubt.

Personally, i say you wait out a little while longer to see how the R9500, 9500pro and 9700 affect the market. If you hold out a bit longer then you'll see the GF FX stir things up and drive prices down.

If it's a "must have" by tomorrow thing, go with the 9700. If you can wait a bit prices may drop as Christmas gets closer, who knows maybe the GeForce FX may pop up in limited numbers.

Unfortunately I do want to get this within the next week... I guess I'll go with Radeon 9700.

Is the Sapphire Atlantis a good model?

the saphire is fine....check out googlegear.com

they have a pretty good price for the atlantis

im sticking with the built by ati version though...i guess it really doesnt matter who makes the card
