I've decided that my Tekram 390 Ultrawide SCSI card is the bottleneck in my system, and after pricing cards in the FS/FT forum, I've narrowed it down to two possibilities:

Adaptec 19160 for $125 u160, Dual Channel, etc

OR

Tekram DC-390U2B for only $45, Ultra2 Wide, 80mb/sec, etc.

Now, I only have one SCSI drive, it's a Seagate Cheetah 10k RPM 18GB, so would it be worth it for me to spend $60 more for u160 SCSI? How much performance difference are we talking about here? Thoughts and opinions on these two cards welcome!!

You don't mention what format that HD is. Ultra 2, or U160???

I have the 19160 myself, and love it. In theory with a 32bit PCI slot you will only get 80 mb/s anyway, but I've benched mine at over that w/ a 7200 rpm Quantum Atlas V U160 drive. Of course the bench could have been wrong, but either way. It's darn fast man. ;)

In all practicality the U2W cards are just fine for single, even two drives up to U160. Im running two X15 drives off my 2940U2W just fine. Actual syncronous data transfers will be WELL below the 80MBPS U2W calls for. Now if you were running a dual processor workstation with 64bit PCI or a large database Server with multidrive accesses U160 would be more necessary.
