I currently have a Galaxy Nexus running Jelly Bean, the phone has been great but I'm getting bored. I'm on Verizon & am debating my choices.

1. Get the SG III
2. Consider a new iPhone
3. Wait for the new Nexus
4. Wait to see if Verizon get the Galaxy Note 2

Which option would you chose?

I'd choose #3. I'll never get a non-Nexus phone again, even if its slightly less powerful. Still enjoying my Nexus, so the wait won't be as bad as it might for you! :)

I would wait until the 12th at least to see what the new iPhone is about. They probably wont announce anything that we dont already know, but at least in 2 days you will know exactly what it will be.

When is the new nexus supposed to be released? SG3 is pretty damn ugly and huge IMO.

I'm sure the next Nexus won't be any smaller. Besides, there's hardly any guarantee it will be available for Verizon anyway. In fact, I'd bet against it.

EDIT: Supposedly the Note2 will be available for Verizon. We shall see.

I'm interested in the Note 2 so obviously I don't have an issue with big phones :) I think the screen on the SG IiI is sweet.

My Nexus has been the best phone I've ever owned, standing pat & waiting with it is sort of a 1st world problem :)

The only reason the iPhone is on my list is because I've got a MacBook air & an iPad. I need a big screen on a phone though & am not sure a slightly longer, skinny iPhone is going to fit the bill.

Are you heavily invested in Android apps? How about iOS apps (I saw in another thread that you have an iPad)? That is pretty much what drove my purchase of the iPhone. It is nice being able to share apps among my various iOS devices.

iPhone will definitely be thin. If you want a big screen I dont know if 4" will fit the bill.

The killer app for me is iMessage. I can drop off and pick up a conversation with anyone on iMessage from my Macbook Air, iPad or iPhone. It is pretty awesome and there is no work needed on my end for it to work.

Being fully integrated into the ecosystem definitely has its upsides. None of this matters tho if you cant see the screen on the phone!

I really wish this worked with Windows. :(

I went from a nexus running liquid smooth jellybean to a gs3 and say it was well worth it.

the gs3 runs cold and I use lte all day without the thing getting hot and the screen is alot better over my old nexus.

I would wait for the lg optomus with the quad core s4pro and adreno 320gpu that is do next month.

that cell has 3x the gpu power and 40% faster cpu power over the gs3 and if the note 2 gets the s4pro in the states I would get that over anything also.

Any chance you'd want to take a look at the Lumia 920? I ask because the camera definitely looks to be top notch.

As such, I'd personally ignore all non-Nexus Android phones, especially since you've been using a Galaxy Nexus. No matter how attractive their hardware might be, you need to learn to resist such temptations, especially because when a new version of Android rolls around, it's going to be 3-6 months before it appears on your phone (especially considering carrier testing).

As such, your options honestly are:
1) iPhone 5
2) Next Nexus
3) High-end Windows Phone 8 device (since OEMs can't screw with the OS, all of them should be good).

That's it.

It does in Windows 8. In fact it threads your Facebook, Google, MSN (and probably any other messaging app that wants to plug in) conversations with a contact all together in one app.

I've got the S3 and I'm really pleased with it. The screen is lovely and the phone feels very nice in your hand.

I have no qualms about recommending it.

That said its worth waiting to see the new iPhone first as you seem to have some other apple stuff and they do work well together.

I'm not afraid of installing custom roms so waiting for carrier updates isn't really a worry to me, heck the DIY aspect is one of the attractions of android ;)

I think though that I will wait patiently, my current phone is less than a year old & I want to see what the new Nexus brings us.

I think we're kind of in the same boat, well other than your ability to resist the urge currently. :) Tomorrow will basically help me decide whether I'll upgrade to the 5 or give Android another shot. I had an EVO for a year and loved it other than the awful battery life. I've heard that is now much improved so have a feeling I'll thoroughly enjoy the GS3.

get one of the new motorola phones. motorola >>>samsung imho. but the new note is really tempting esp if its quad core. if by "the new nexus" you mean the one in stores now, definitely dont do that. if you mean a yet-to-be released nexus, that would probably be a nice choice

Custom ROM support will always be infinitely better for Samsung than Motorola (they still lock their bootloaders).

Enjoy your locked bootloaders. Or maybe you're a masochist that prefers moto-blur.

Not into rooting or installing custom ROMs? Think about it this way. You have less options with Moto, and theres talk of them installing a feature that tells on you if you root and unroot to make a warranty claim.

Apple is circling the drain. After they successfully sued Samsung (lol American court system) I'd say to avoid them on ethical grounds. But if you like locked down devices with out-of-date specs and small screens, go right ahead. Their products do tend to run smoothly, but Android has come a long way and allows you to do much more.

I think Moto is finally changing it's stance on locked bootloaders with Google at the helm. Didn't they release a general unlocking tool for recent phones? Sucks that it doesn't work for older models but it should get much better going forward once google's had time to actually handle the reins there for a bit.

I've had multiple Samsung phones and have a Motorola tablet and Samsung > Moto. Samsung's devices are easy to root and don't have locked boot loaders while Moto is the exact opposite and stops you from being able to use the device the way you want.
