Help me decide on a new game

trmiv

Lifer
I got some extra cash after my birthday so I'm trying to decide on a new game to buy. Here are my current choices:

No One Lives Forever
Age of Empires II Conquerors expansion
American McGee's Alice
Rune
Giants: Citizen Kabuto
Mechwarrior 4

I'm kind of leaning towards the Age of Empires expansion because it isn't demanding graphically. My machine's video card (Matrox G400 Max) is quickly getting out of date, and when I used it on the No One Lives Forever demo I was a bit disappointed in the performance and some of the problems (odd textures on the ground and characters). Anyone have any opinions?

well from those games listed above..
i would get like no1 lives forever..but then u said the perfromance kinda sucked..
so i dont really know..
well maybe Mechwarriors4..cuz its quite alrite...

I don't like any games on that list. Tell me what games you have now and I'll recommend which ones you should get. 🙂

If performance is an issue, I would say Giants and Alice and out immediately. So, I think your best bets are Conquerors or Mech4. Mech4 is not much different from previous offerings, so it is whether or not you love the series. Conquerors should give you the best performance and provide lots of game time.

What kind of games do like the best? I don't have a G400 -- I had a G200, and to this day I still miss it🙂 -- so I can't tell you the best game to buy for your card... But what I'd get is, in this order:

1. No One Lives Forever - runs better than the demo - and very cool gameplay to boot...
2. Alice - wonderful style plays well

The other games, I haven't played, except for the Rune demo; which was so-so -- also try hitting some of the Matrox BBS'... You can find out what other users think about these games, and help with with any problems that you may or may not have with them...

Cheers,
Uber

I have been playing Rune. If you like deathmatching this is a somewhat different twist on it. Basically all hand to hand with primitive weapons swords axes and hammers or bashing weapons all third person view visually very exciting. Nothing more fun than chopping someones sword arm off then pinning them in a corner and making them say uncle or somesuch thing.

Thanks for the opinions all

Uber Neuman: So the full version of NOLF runs better than the demo? The demo for me ran horrible. The frame rate was not acceptable at 800x600x16 and there was some weird stuff going on with the textures. If the full version doesn't have those problems that might be the game for me. I liked the demo because I had been hoping for a game that was like Thief(played and loved both 1 and 2), but set in more modern time.

NesuD: the slicing off heads and limbs thing in Rune sounds cool. Isn't that using the Unreal engine? Unreal Tournament has always ran really well(as well as an outdated card can) on my G400 so that might do well on my G400 too.

I need to face the music, it's time for me to buy a new video card.

Out of that list, I'd go with no1LF... it might be a little slow, but it'll probably work better than the demo (most games do) and it's a great game... I had to deal with Deus Ex constantly crusting (stupid UT engine needing 32942657435 megs of ram!) but it was still very enjoyable... get that if you don't already have it.

Or you could always save up and get a nvidia card 😀

CitricACiD: I think you are right on the nVidia thing. I want to get a GeForce MX card with the Twin View. I use the dual head thing on my G400 a lot to watch DVDs so that's important to me. I think after christmas I'll buy an MX, or maybe a GTS as the price comes down.

I think I've decided to buy the Conquerors expansion for right now. I found it locally pretty cheap so that made the decision easy. 🙂
