Help me decide my future career/major...

Alright guys, I once again call on ATOT for a very important life decision (yes I know, bad idea). Im going to be 20 years old in less then a month. I'm a sophomore in college, finishing up my AA degree this semester. The problem is I have no idea what I really want to do with my life, or what I want to major in. I guess I need to figure it out before I go to school next semester, cause I'll need to declare a major farily soon.

Ive always wanted to do something in sports, but I have no idea what. People say I would be good at sports journalism of some sort, but Im sure its a HIGHLY competitive field and if I don't make it I would be stuck making 30k a year (which I don't want). Im a pretty friendly, outgoing guy. I consider myself to be smart. I'd say my one weak area is in mechanical skills (construction of things etc..) but I consider myself smarter then average in other areas.

Not really to sure what else to say. I guess if you want to know anything about me just ask, otherwise Im open to all suggestions as to career types/majors.

Oh, one thing. I don't really want to go into a computer related field. Even though I enjoy computers as a hobby, I don't want to work in that field.

So any help/input would be much appreciated.

Well if you like writing generally you can try being a sports writer but if that doesn't work out, go into another field of journalism?

Also if you really enjoy sports, get into a field related to sport-rehab or training?

Medical field would be my choice.

Ive considered it. Only problem with that is 1. Im a bit of a slacker when it comes to school (so I don't have a great GPA) and 2. If I were somehow to get into medical school it would be very expensive I would think.

Sports Medicine
If you're slacking, just remember you have to put the time and effort in to achieve what you want, no one is going to give it to you. You know you like sports. You know you want to make good money. Go make it happen.

Who cares if your Community College GPA is low. Employers and Grad/med/law/biz schools don't care about an AA or your junior college GPA. Change your study habits, get motivated, and stop fvcking around when you transfer to the university.

Major in Statistics, a very fun major you will love it. It isn't sports but it is still very fun.

How'd you know I was currently at a Community College?

Because generally only community colleges offer AA degrees. Someone else suggested Sports Medicine/Physical Therapy. Check it out. Chances are there are a few colleges within an hour or two of where you live. Check out their web sites for any sports related fields you may be interested in. If something sounds interesting, make an appointment with someone from that department and take an afternoon and drive up and visit them. I think I've heard of some schools having sports management tracks in their business departments too.

I don't know what schooling for a Physical Therapist is like. About all I know is that you'll end up with a "DPT" (Doctor of Physical Therapy).

No matter what you pick, you're probably going to have to work on getting your grades up.

What else are you interested in besides sports?

I dont think he wants to spend 3 years in dental school, then 3 more years in an orthodontics program.

Honestly, it is something you are going to have to figure out yourself. I'm 24, and I still dont know exactly wtf to do with my life either. Thats not going to change for me or most people I know for quite some time.

What you will likely find is that you will fall into something that you probably didnt expect you would.

Have you considered manually servicing caged animals for artificial insemination? 😀 *j/k*
How about an english degree? I know one guy with an english degree who is a web programmer, and a gal with one who manages a mall.

Army/Navy/Air Force/Marine Corps.

IIRC the Navy has an apprenticeship program where you can try a few different jobs.

take a career placement test. i'm thinking of doing the same, since i don't know what i want to do anymore either.
