i am building a new computer... for those who need to know what some of my parts are:

seagate 160gb 8mb
lian-li pc 65
geil pc3200 512mb X 2 (this is a pair of sticks that i used in my brothers computer, i have another pair of ocz pc3200 256mb X 2 that i can also use.
(might get this memory for this computer: corsair)

i am looking at these 2 parts & they are roughly the same price, but different brands. i need help deciding which is better for that price

amd 64 3000+
intel p4 2.8e

the motherboard i will decide on when i figure out which processor to get. other parts like the drives, psu & cooling i already have taken care of. for now i just need some advice on which processor is better for that price if someone could take a look. thanks in advance

I would go AMD. DFI 754 board is the best according to Anandtech. Check out their Overclocking guide on the front page.

thanks, but could you tell me why?

Cooler, faster, and with features like 64bit and NX.

BTW I hav'nt seen anyone determined failing t achive 2500mhz on the new AX cores most of the time at default voltage or no more than 1.6.

It's weird but A64 just feels faster than anything I've ever used. Opening and closing windows, exiting apps, switching between them etc. It's seems very fluid like... but hard to put a benchmark on it but most users can indentify with my feeling.
