I'm not sure which one would be the quieter one but I've used LiteOn for about 5 years now and they have treated me pretty good so far. Knock on wood! Although on the specs. the Samsung claims to reduce noise and vibration.

I'd probably go for the Samsung, but I'd try to find the retail version with the 8MB buffer. And I would be sure to look at the MSI X52 Combo (CDRW/DVD-ROM) if you don't already have a DVD reader on your machine. You can mix or match faceplates for 5 different looks and it has a blingy lighted button (multicolors and blinks) that you can't get anywhere else. I love mine... A bit more expensive that some, but worth it.

Lite-Ons are pretty good with duplicating protected material i.e. game CDs.

Thanks, I currently have a Samsung 48x CDRW that is having burn problems. And it is super quiet and not a resources hog. But I know Lite-On has a good reputation too.

I have that Lite-On Drive, it's very noisy but since I have a door on my case I can muffle it fairly well, other than the noise factor it's a wonderful drive. If noise is a factor I'd definitly get the samsung drive they tend to be quieter than most other brands. My dad has a Samsung CDRW/DVD combo drive and it pretty much does everything well and is dead silent for a cd drive :) Hope this helps... :)

Samsung is supposed to be quieter due to thier "Dynamic Vibration Absorber"...that's the word at SPCR
