According to the Dell website the only way to ensure you are getting a 3 year warranty is to check the invoice or packing slip when you open the box. Mine had no paperwork. The sales rep told me it was a 3 year warranty before I placed the purchase.

Of course the rep also told me it was $524 instead of $448. Perhaps the additional $80 was for a new model.

When I called back today the second person I talked with... in order, Jasmine, Samir, and Nisar finally told me it was a 90 day warranty because I purchased a refurbished model.

I was told the warranty can not be extended for a refurbished model, unless you buy a computer with it. BTW, if you puchase a new monitor WITH a computer the monitor warranty is cut from 3 years to one year. :/

I did find the user guide online (the monitor rotates so you don't have to hold it upside down to plug in the cables!) and found more documentation on calibrating the monitor by googling "calibrating lcd monitors".

I'm about to try Powerstrip to adjust it and purchased Spyder 2 for the color (but that helps match monitor and printer colors as well) for a few hundred dollars.

Let me give a GOOD plug for my 2005FPW. Even with the brightness up to 100 I don't see the normal blacklighting issues described as the biggest problem with this monitor. There is a small amount of purple glow even at brightness 0, but not something that bothers me, and trust me, I have high standards (but I'm not processing images for a living on this computer) NOr do I see (amature trying to find them) any dead or persitently on pixels.

Now, to work on calibrating this monitor. I really do want to keep it and may be spending more than the monitor cost for softwareand hardward just to keep it! :)
