It?s been a few years since I?ve been in the computer building loop and after spending a few hours on the board again I find myself overwhelmed with all of the changes and terminology.
I would like to get another system up soon, but I don?t really have a month to get myself up to speed on mobo?s and processors. I was hoping to get some input and perhaps a list of the top 3 or 5 suggested mobo?s on the market today for my applications?.
Basically, I would like to build an AMD-based PC and stuff it full of hard drives to network it to 2 workstations. Besides being a ?server?, I may use it to run AutoCAD, Photoshop and a few other applications so I wouldn?t really want to call it a ?dedicated server?.
Price/budget isn?t a huge consideration, except I would like to keep the mobo under the $350 range. Obviously, stability and maximizing IDE channels and PCI slots is important so that I can stack a ton of HD?s.
I took a look at Anand?s High End September 2004 Buyers Guide and they recommended the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum for $124 at Newegg.
Anyone have other recommendations or had issues with the MSI Platinum? I don?t want to spend $800 on a processor (Athlon 64 FX53) for the MSI so any suggestions for something in the $300 or less department would be welcome....
Thanks for any input!
