I recently purchased a set of Sennheiser HD458BT headphones for my wife. She's used a set of their HD440BT cans for a couple of years, so she's familiar with how to work them. (sadly, she's very tech illiterate...and likes it that way)
The 458s connect just fine to my Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra phone and to my ancient (2017) iPad, so I don't think it's the headphones...and the TV connects just fine to her 440s, a pair of Sony headphones, and a pair of Monoprice cans...so it's gotta be a communications issue.
If I can't resolve this issue, they will go back to Best Buy and I'll have to find something else for her.

My WAG is that this is some sort of blue tooth issue. Are the other headphones you mentioned as working with the TV also bluetooth? Sometimes I think bluetooth is the spawn of the devil.

IMO this isn't really an audio problem as such, you might get more exposure and more knowledgeable answers in a more general hardware forum, like Components and Peripherals.

Never mind. Apparently the HD458BT headphones are kniwn for connection issues. They've been returned to Best Buy.
